A company behind providing cryptocurrency-linked and other exchange-traded funds (ETFs) has filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for listing shares of a leveraged Bitcoin futures ETF.

BlackRock, the world's biggest asset manager, filed last week for the exchange which would allow investors to get stakes in the asset class. The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that EDX Markets, a crypto exchange backed by Citadel Securities, Fidelity and Schwab had started operations. The global cryptocurrency industry has been caught in the crosshairs of the U.S. securities regulator on alleged violations of securities laws. Earlier this month, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued major crypto exchanges including Coinbase and Binance. Bitcoin, the world's biggest and best-known cryptocurrency, was last up 5.5% on Wednesday at 29,881.00 after hitting a high of $30,755.00. It is up roughly 81% for the year-to-date.

Coinbase, one of the largest centralized exchanges for staking ETH, faced a setback with the SEC lawsuit, causing users to seek alternative platforms. This shift led to a significant boost for decentralized solutions like Lido [LDO], resulting in a surge of ETH staked on its protocol.

Bitcoin's (BTC) 15% rally toward $30,300 between June 19 and June 21 caught most traders by surprise, triggering $125 million in liquidations of leveraged short futures contracts. Narrowing down the trigger for the rally is complicated, but some analysts point to the potential inflow of institutional investors if Blackrock’s exchange-traded fund (ETF) application gets regulatory approval.
