Wayanad's “unexpected” low voter turnout leaves Congress upset; speculations over what number Priyanka gets
Congress Committee (AICC) is investigating the reasons behind the dip, ToI reported on November 15. Despite the lower turnout, the Congress party remains confident of victory for their candidate, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The election, held on Wednesday, saw over five lakh fewer voters compared to previous years. This has caused concern within the Congress, particularly in traditionally strong UDF areas like Nilambur, Wandoor, and Sulthan Bathery. While initial estimates suggested a large margin of victory for Priyanka Gandhi, the party now expects it to be between three and four lakh votes, ToI's report said.

World record missed: Goa’s Kauthankar & Bakle miss Sangakkara-Jayawardene record due to a mistimed call
Snehal Kauthankar and Kashyap Bakle etched their names in Ranji Trophy history with a 606-run partnership for the third wicket against Arunachal Pradesh. However, their joy of setting a new Ranji record turned bittersweet when they realized they had narrowly missed breaking the all-time first-class cricket partnership record by just 19 runs. When Kauthankar and Bakle walked into the dressing room at the lunch break, they were informed they were only 18 runs away from surpassing Maharashtra's Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawne’s Ranji Trophy record of 594 runs. On resumption, the duo quickly broke the record amidst loud cheers at the Academy ground in Porvorim. Kauthankar, who had already reached a triple century, was joined by Bakle, who also completed his maiden triple ton in just his second Ranji game. The Goa captain, Darshan Misal, declared the innings at 727-2, sealing the 606-run partnership. Only later did the team realise that they were just 19 runs shy of breaking the all-time first-class record of 624 runs, set by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene against South Africa in 2006.

India mobility opportunity massive, underpenetrated; have barely scratched surface: Uber
Uber India and South Asia Prabhjeet Singh has said, terming it an «incredibly important market» that presents a multi-decadal opportunity for the ride-hailing platform. Singh told PTI that mobility opportunity in India is «massive» and «underpenetrated». The company believes it has «barely scratched the surface» despite the strong line-up of products and services and the robust growth. «There is so much more to be done even though we are growing leaps and bounds,» the top honcho of Uber India said. The mobility giant will continue to bring cutting-edge innovation to the market and also take India-first innovations to the rest of the world, he emphasised.

Royalty payments by some listed companies exceed 20% of profits
Listed companies paid royalty to related parties in excess of 20% of their net profits on one out of four occasions, flagging the need for change in norms, a study published by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) Thursday showed. “The data suggests that though the royalty payments made by companies are reasonably within the stipulated threshold, such payments are unjustifiably high in terms of their profitability,” Sebi said.

Boat sets sail for $300-500 million IPO with bankers on board
audio products brand Boat has finalised ICICI Securities, Goldman Sachs and Nomura as bankers for a $300-500 million IPO next year, sources aware of the matter said, joining the queue of new-age firms looking to go public. New Delhi-based Boat may aim for a valuation of over $1.5 billion, sources said, adding these numbers may change closer to the IPO filing. It’s targeting a public offer in next financial year. Boat had filed draft papers for a public offering in 2022 but halted those plans citing market conditions and raised $60 million in private capital through convertible preferred stocks notes from existing investor Warburg Pincus and new investor Malabar Investments at a minimum valuation cap of around $1.2 billion. “ICICI Securities is the lead banker for the issue and they are looking to file for next financial year,” one of the persons said. “In total they have finalised four bankers.”

Telcos, experts flag draft rules on cybersecurity as fears of overlap with MeitY guidelines loom
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which is due to publish the rules soon after having sought views from multiple stakeholders end-August, might also build a regulatory framework that overlaps with the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY's) existing cybersecurity regulations, creating room for multiple interpretations and potential complications. Hence, telecom operators have approached the DoT regarding some problematic areas, including the scope of the rules and stringent conditions that essentially increase their compliance liabilities. «The rules make telcos responsible for any misuse of telecom resources by consumers. If some user commits a crime, why should the company be penalised?» asked a senior telco executive, requesting not to be named.
