Russia are exploring the idea of a dynamic reference rate to start a rupee-rouble market, along with allowing greater deployment of the rupee balance that has accumulated in course of trade between the two countries since outbreak of the Ukraine war. A reference or exchange rate is aimed at overcoming the dollar trade barriers raised by US sanctions imposed on Russia in February 2022. These, along with putting in place a payment confirmation mechanism, are expected to figure during a meeting of senior central bank officials and bankers in Moscow this week, two industry persons told ET. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently took feedback from banks and financial institutions dealing with Russian funds registered in India.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Urban 2.0 plan over the next five years is expected to boost the affordable housing segment, allowing those migrating to cities for a livelihood to secure reasonable accommodation. PMAY-U is among the major flagship programmes being implemented by the government to provide all-weather pucca houses to all eligible beneficiaries in the urban areas. Under PMAY-U, more than 11.8 million homes have been sanctioned while nearly 9 million houses have already been constructed and delivered to the beneficiaries. “The nature of the housing scheme has changed in its new avatar. Government is using a wider mix of schemes ranging from interest subsidy to credit guarantee. While the quantum of interest subsidy per beneficiary has been scaled down, the government’s capital support will help a larger base of needy population. The government intends to do both — enhance its capital productivity and accelerate the ‘Housing for All’ timelines,” said Vivek Rathi, National Director Research, Knight Frank India.

Regional Impact and Service Breakdown The outage particularly affected major US cities such as Los Angeles and New York City, with additional reports from Houston, San Francisco, Dallas, Boston, and Chicago. According to Downdetector’s heat map, 57% of the reported problems were related to Google’s search functionality, 31% were linked to website performance, and 11% concerned Google Drive.

Kotak Mahindra Bank on Monday said Sonata Finance Private Ltd and BSS Microfinance Ltd, both wholly-owned subsidiaries of the bank, at their respective board meetings have approved a scheme of amalgamation. As per the scheme of amalgamation approved on Monday, Sonata would merge with BSS Microfinance Ltd on a going concern basis, Kotak Mahindra Bank said in a regulatory filing. The scheme would be subject to the approval of the respective shareholders and creditors of Sonata and BSS and the approval of the concerned National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and other regulatory authorities, it said. The combined net worth of Sonata and BSS is less than 2 per cent of the net worth of the bank, as on March 31, 2024, it said.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that police prevented four Bangladeshi nationals from entering India illegally through Karimganj district. Sarma stated on X, “This morning at 1:30 AM, Bangladeshi citizens identified as Motiur Seikh, Mushiar Mullah, Tania Mullah, and Rita Mullah attempted to enter India through the Karimganj sector of the India-Bangladesh border. However, police effectively intervened at the zero point and promptly repelled them, preventing their unauthorized entry.” He told media persons these people were Rohingyas and it is not related to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh.

CBI) 15 days to obtain the requisite sanctions to prosecute Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak in a corruption case related to the alleged excise scam. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja allowed the central agency time till August 27 to secure necessary sanctions after being told that they were yet to be received from the authorities concerned. The CBI had earlier secured sanctions to investigate them in the case. Pathak, a senior member of the Aam Aadmi Party's political affairs committee, is considered very close to Kejriwal.
