Shares of Balkrishna Industries Ltd.(up 0.92 per cent), Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd.(up 0.71 per cent), Bharat Forge Ltd.(up 0.59 per cent), MRF Ltd.(up 0.55 per cent) and Tube Investments of India Ltd.(up 0.46 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack. On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(down 1.69 per cent), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 1.66 per cent), Bosch Ltd.(down 1.38 per cent), TVS Motor Company Ltd.(down 0.9 per cent) and Ashok Leyland Ltd.(down 0.76 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day. The Nifty Auto index closed 0.51 per cent down at 16479.7. Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 231.9 points at 19901.4, while the BSE Sensex stood down 796.0 points at 66800.84. Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 10 ended in the green, while 39 closed in the red. Overall, 10 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 39 closed in the red. In the Nifty 50 index, Power Grid, Coal India Ltd, ONGC, Sun Pharma and Eicher Motors were among top gainers during the day, while HDFC Bank, JSW Steel, RIL, BPCL and SBI Life ended in the red. The BSE Sensex closed 796.0 points down at 66800.84. Traders piled up positions in Telecommunications, Rubber, Term Lending Institutions, Tyres and Consumer Durables sectors, while selling was witnessed in Banks, Petrochemicals, Power, Metals — Ferrous and Electric/Electronics sectors during the day.

Nifty closed with solid losses on Wednesday, extending their losses into the second consecutive session amid mixed global cues ahead of the US Fed policy outcome while the US Treasury yields hovered near multi-year highs. The Fed is likely to keep rates unchanged today but the risk of inflation is not over yet with crude oil prices surging sharply in the recent past. Crude oil benchmark Brent Crude futures fell over a per cent in today's trade, slipping from its 10-month high level but they are still up nearly 30 per cent in the last three months after the output cut by OPEC+.

Adani Power Ltd. dropped 2.09 per cent to Rs 366.95 at 02:05PM (IST) in Wednesday's trade.

ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Ltd. traded at Rs 589.95 on BSE at 02:00PM (IST) on Wednesday, down 2.08 per cent from previous close. The stock quoted a 52-week low price of Rs 380.95 and a high of Rs 615.55. Earlier, the stock saw a gap down opening in the morning. Nifty Bank index today opened at 45,493.70 and went on to hit an intraday low of 45,310.05 and an intraday high of 45,745.15. At 1.40 pm, Bank Nifty was 624.60 points or 1.36% down at 45360.65. Voltas Ltd. traded at Rs 875.45 on BSE at 12:59PM (IST) on Wednesday, down 0.76 per cent from previous close. The stock quoted a 52-week low price of Rs 737.6 and a high of Rs 935.65. IIFL Finance share price rose over a per cent in morning trade defying weak market sentiment after global financial firm HSBC initiated coverage on the stock with a buy recommendation, pegging the target price of ₹790, implying an upside of as much as 35 per cent from the stock's previous session's close of ₹586.35 on BSE. The stock opened at ₹589.45 against the previous close of ₹586.35 and soon rose over a per cent to the level of ₹592.75. The stock hit its 52-week high of ₹648 on September 11 this year.
