So once the transaction is confirmed, the buyer doesn’t receive shares instantly, nor does the seller receive the proceeds instantly.

Alphabet's Google on Tuesday tentatively settled a class action by 21 million consumers alleging that it had violated U.S. federal antitrust rules by overcharging customers on its U.S. Google Play Store, according to a court filing. Consumers claimed they might have spent less on apps and had more options if it weren't for the alleged monopoly. Google had denied wrongdoing and declined to comment on the proposed settlement.

The payments giant has been working with issuers on stablecoins since 2021 and is now looking into settlement options to send funds onchain to acquirers like Worldpay and Nuvei to help speed up settlement times for their merchants. Using its own account with USDC outfit Circle, Visa can now manage settlement payouts in USDC to Worldpay and Nuvei who can then route these payments in USDC to their end merchants. Meanwhile, Visa has added support for Solana as a high performance blockchain that its partners can choose to send or receive USDC settlement payments. “Visa’s USDC settlement capability enables Worldpay to bring more of our treasury operations in-house and allows us to offer merchants more choices for receiving funds,” says Jim Johnson, president, Worldpay Merchant Solutions, FIS.

Currently trades in India are settled in «T+1» or one day after the trades are initiated. Instant settlement would ensure trades are settled immediately. For foreign investors, the instant trade settlement would be optional and not mandatory, the source said. To start, the regulator would implement settlement within one hour of the trade, with instant settlement coming some months later. «By March 2024 we hope to first move towards one hour settlement cycle, since exchanges and clearing corporations say they need more time to work on the systems for instant settlement,» the source said. India is the second country after China which operates on a short settlement cycle of one day.

(Reuters) -3M said on Tuesday it had agreed to pay $6 billion to settle nearly 260,000 lawsuits accusing it of selling defective combat earplugs that caused hearing loss in hundreds of thousands of current and former U.S. military service members.

3M and plaintiffs attorneys are nearing a settlement that would resolve hundreds of thousands of claims by veterans that earplugs made by the company and a subsidiary failed to protect them from hearing loss. Under the terms being discussed, 3M would pay about $5.5 billion, people close to the discussions said. Negotiations are continuing, they said, and the final amount hasn’t been established yet.

(NYSE:MMM) climbed in premarket U.S. trading on Monday following media reports that the industrial conglomerate has tentatively agreed to pay over $5.5 billion to resolve hundreds of thousands of lawsuits alleging that its earplugs sold to the U.S. military were defective.

European Union on Saturday said it is awaiting India's response to its proposal for setting up of a dedicated dispute settlement mechanism under the bilateral investment protection pact that is being negotiated along with an ambitious free trade agreement (FTA) by the two sides. The EU's Executive Vice-President and Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis told a small group of journalists that both sides are engaged in «intensive» negotiations on the proposed FTA and that «progress» has been made on various issues. But at the same time the top EU official, currently on a visit to India, noted that there is «still a lot of work ahead of us». Asked when the FTA can be sealed, he said the main focus has been on «substance over deadlines». To a question, Dombrovskis said there is no direct impact of New Delhi's trade ties with Moscow on the India-EU trade negotiations, adding: «In a sense, we do not see new topics emerging which could be obstacles for the FTA in this context.» Dombrovskis also allayed New Delhi's concerns over its proposed carbon tax on imports of high-carbon goods like steel, iron ore and described it as «non-discriminatory» measure aimed at protecting the planet. Over four months back, the European Union announced its decision to impose the carbon tax on imports on imports of steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers and electricity as part of its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). The CBAM that will come into effect from 2026 is aimed at achieving net zero greenhouse emissions by 2050. «Given that the CBAM is non-discriminatory and non-trade distorted, it doesn't really affect certain countries' producers' ability to export to the EU.

New Delhi: Competition Commission of India (CCI) has sought public comments on two schemes under which it will offer settlements in cases, and accept commitments from businesses to change their behaviour in order to avoid an investigation. The government had earlier this year amended the Competition Act enabling CCI to offer these schemes.
