Picture imperfect: Why Gaurav Banerjee has an arduous job at Sony
saas-bahu template took over Indian TV, I was hooked on Aahat, a horror show on Sony Entertainment Television (SET), the TV channel owned by Sony Pictures Networks India. I watched the show, based on ghosts, spirits and paranormal activity, with my grandmother every weekend when it aired post 10 pm. My parents, both early sleepers, are still amused by the visual of a six-year-old and a 60-year-old staying up until midnight to watch dead people returning to haunt their murderers, disguising themselves as clowns, hiding in toys, and whatnot.

Hathras stampede: UP govt hiding its failure by making minor arrests, says Akhilesh Yadav
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday accused the Uttar Pradesh government of trying to hide its failure in the Hathras stampede that killed 121 people by making "minor arrests". Yadav, in a post on 'X', said that it looks like such accidents will continue to happen since the state government does not seem to have learnt from the administrative lapses that led to the stampede. The SP chief also tagged a letter addressed to him in his post on X, in which, Ankit Yadav, a resident of Mainpuri district, claims that his father has been wrongly framed in connection with the stampede, and insists that his father has no link with the incident. In a post on 'X' in Hindi, Yadav said, «To hide its failure in the 'Hathras incident', the UP government wants to shirk responsibility for the deaths of hundreds of people by making minor arrests. If this happens, it will mean that no one has learnt any lesson from the administrative failure in such events and such accidents will keep repeating in the future.»

BCCI cannot prioritise one city over another for hosting key matches, says Rajeev Shukla
BCCI cannot prioritise one city over another when it comes to organising important finals, said board's vice-president on Friday in response to Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray's demand. Following a massive turnout during Indian cricket team's T20 World Cup victory parade on Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium, Thackeray had urged BCCI to not «take away» any final match from Mumbai. «Yesterday's celebration in Mumbai is also a strong message to the BCCI… Never take away a World Cup final from Mumbai!,» Thackeray had written on X. «It is BCCI's policy that where the final should take place. It cannot always be given to a particular city,» Shukla told PTI on Friday.

Fed postpones rate cut until 'greater confidence' in sustainable inflation levels
Powell's comments came on Tuesday (9 July) during a Congress presentation of the semi-annual monetary policy report published on 5 July. According to him, while data for the first quarter of 2024 «did not support such greater confidence», the most recent inflation readings showed «some modest further progress» in that direction. However, Powell added, recent US market indicators highlighted continuous economic expansion, with private domestic demand remaining «robust». In Ju...
