dengue can be as life-threatening as the subsequent ones, according to a study which challenges the widely held belief that the viral disease is severe only in secondary infections. The research, published recently in the journal Nature Medicine, analysed severe dengue cases in a group of children in India, showing that more than half could be attributed to primary rather than secondary infection. Over the past two decades, dengue infections have greatly increased in India and the country has one of the largest number of cases globally. markets UPS Booking show information rights The many flawed equity investing rules of retail investors that don't stand up to scrutiny when it comes to earning real returns
equity for a long period of time will have personal experience to vouch for the simple approach of holding a diversified portfolio that is managed to weed out losers. For everyone else, such advice is simply theory. This is because they have made their own rules. Everyone who has dabbled in equity investing has had good and bad experiences. They deem these to be their best teachers. The lessons are shared with others, who also draw similar conclusions. The commonality of experience is enough, in many cases, to overtly generalise. Many rules are formed in this manner and usually narrated with great conviction. This one ranks at the top: one must not be greedy, and one must book profits. This position typically comes from the experience of being with a stock (not portfolio) that ran up in a speculative frenzy, and then crashed. It is also the lesson many investors take from the benefit of hindsight when the equity markets fall. If only I had booked profits, they rue.

markets UPS Manufacturing wellness Cycling show performer Should you invest in thematic mutual fund NFOs? 6 factors to keep in mind
ABSL Mutual Fund launched a thematic fund, providing investors a way to play the emerging ‘manufacturing’ theme. Fast forward nine years and the investors who stayed the course find the thematic fund’s 12.5% return since inception lower than the broader market return for the respective period. Thematic new fund offers (NFOs) make a tantalising proposition—targeted exposure to specific themes. But do these funds truly perform? Statistically, funds like ABSL Manufacturing that didn’t do well form 36% of the thematic NFOs launched in the past 10 years. A higher 64% have done better than the overall market since launch, an ET Wealth study shows. Game of themes The reason for AMCs coming up with more thematic NFOs in recent years has been largely due to the regulatory cap of a single fund per category. However, funds can have any number of unique themes. Between 2014 and 2017, there were only six thematic equity NFOs (actively managed), but in the 2018-23 period, 55 new funds came into the market. Buoyant markets have helped. With equities giving double-digit returns in four of these six years, thematic funds have easily attracted eyeballs.
