Worst October for stocks in 5 years has investors exiting market
VIX is at 20, stocks are on the brink of their worst October in five years, and every other day the bond market throws a fit. For equity bulls conditioned to dive in at any sign of weakness, it’s getting to be too much. Across investor categories, they’re pulling money out and hardening a posture that is by some measures the most defensive in over a year. Surveys of professional managers show big-money allocators have cut their equities to levels last seen at the depths of the 2022 bear market.

Vindhya: MP's 'rainbow' region that turned saffron in 2018; Congress eyes better show, AAP looks to open account
Vindhya region was nearly swept by the BJP in the 2018 assembly elections, but it has a history of giving space to parties with different ideological hues — from Communists to the BSP — making the region politically evolved where the Congress will look to improve tally in the upcoming polls and new entrant AAP try to notch up its first win in the state. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is eyeing to enter in the state assembly, possibly through the Vindhya region, which elected the first Lok Sabha member for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) from Madhya Pradesh in 1991 and also gave representation to Communists in electoral politics.

Success(ion) Planning: India Inc stresses on plans for next-in-lines amid talent war
succession planning more than ever before as an intensifying war for top-deck talent and the rising mobility of key personnel prompt organisations to proactively build up a second and even third line, said board members and chief executives. Besides, a push from boards and investors amid a manifold increase in the complexity of risks facing any company is leading many — especially in sectors such as financial services and technology, and at large diversified conglomerates — to take succession planning to at least two levels below the CEO and CXOs.

Hamas vows 'full force' after Israel steps up Gaza ground operations
Hamas said on Saturday its militants in Gaza were ready to confront Israeli attacks with «full force» after Israel's military widened its air and ground attacks on the Palestinian enclave. The Palestinian militant group that rules Gaza said earlier its fighters were clashing with Israeli troops in areas near the border with Israel after Israel reported intensified attacks in Gaza. «In addition to the attacks carried out in the last few days, ground forces are expanding their operations tonight,» Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a televised news briefing on Friday evening, raising the question of whether a long-anticipated ground invasion of Gaza may be beginning. He said Israel's air force was conducting extensive strikes on tunnels dug by Hamas and other infrastructure. The armed wing of Hamas said late on Friday its fighters were clashing with Israeli troops in Gaza's northeastern town of Beit Hanoun and in the central area of Al-Bureij. «The Al-Qassam brigades and all the Palestinian resistance forces are completely ready to confront (Israel's) aggression with full force and frustrate its incursions,» Hamas said in a statement early on Saturday. «Netanyahu and his defeated army will not be able to achieve any military victory,» referring to the Israeli prime minister. Israeli ground forces had massed outside Gaza, where Israel has been conducting an intense campaign of aerial bombardment since a deadly Oct.

Orlando Brown injury update: Will Cincinnati Bengals left tackle play against San Francisco 49ers?
Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Orlando Brown recently suffered a groin injury, which caused him to exit the team's Week Six game against the Seahawks. However, Brown is now confident in his recovery and anticipates being fit to play against the San Francisco 49ers in Week Eight. His optimism is supported by the fact that he participated in full practice on Friday, and he has received a clean bill of health for Sunday's game. Orlando Brown has been a starter in all six of the Bengals' games this season. As for the Bengals' overall injury status, there are no significant concerns leading up to the upcoming game. Nevertheless, the team did announce on Friday that two players, linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither (knee) and running back Chase Brown (hamstring), will be unavailable for the game. Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers showed they could win lopsided games when they raced out to a 5-0 start and were barely challenged in the second half in any of those games. Pulling it out down the stretch in a tight game has been a different issue. A few key mistakes have doomed San Francisco in tight losses the past two weeks against Cleveland and Minnesota. The Niners (5-2) will look to find that formula for winning even when everything isn't going as planned when they host the Cincinnati Bengals (3-3) on Sunday.

Maine authorities grow ‘more concerned’ as mass shooting suspect remains elusive
Maine authorities say they’re getting “more concerned” the longer the search takes for the man wanted in two mass shootings.Mike Sauschuck, commissioner of Maine’s department of public safety, vowed to reporters Friday that 40-year-old Robert Card, the suspect allegedly behind the killings on Wednesday, will be found.“Every minute that this goes on, we’re more and more concerned because, what’s the next thing that’s going to happen? We understand that, and that’s why we’re working 24/7 to bring this individual to justice and to try to bring some closure and overall safety to our communities,” he said.“There’s no question in my mind that we will bring this individual into custody one way or the other.”Sauschuck said Friday one area of focus for police was the Androscoggin River where a white SUV that authorities believe Card used to get away was found near a boat launch in Lisbon, some 11 kilometres to the southeast of Lewiston where the shootings took place.Reuters reported Friday that public records show he owns at least one watercraft made by Sea-Doo, a company known for its jet skis. It’s not clear where that watercraft was docked.Eighteen people were killed and 13 others were injured during two separate shootings at a bowling alley and bar.
