When Ankur Warikoo made money in penny stocks and got addicted
Like many retail investors, entrepreneur Ankur Warikoo also started his investing journey with penny stocks. As beginner's luck worked in his favour, he got addicted but the ending wasn't a happy one. Left with a bad taste in his mouth, the social media influencer has stopped investing in stocks directly since then. «I do not invest in individual stocks because I am not an expert, nor have the time to track their performance. I am a passive investor and invest only through portfolio assets such as (index) mutual funds, smallcases and PMS,» he says. The best-selling author of 'Do Epic Shit', Warikoo's new book 'Make Epic Money' decodes personal finance in a jargon-free language that GenZ and millennial readers can easily relate to. The book is published by Penguin. Edited excerpts from a chat with Ankur Warikoo where he talks about his own asset allocation strategy, the mistakes he made and when is the best time to buy a house: You have kept simplicity at the centre of your book. Why do you think personal finance has become so complex? Ankur Warikoo: Because often the book is written to impress the reader, as against informing the reader.

What to do with Zomato, Tata Investment and 4 other stocks? Aamar Deo Singh of Angel One decodes
Amid a fierce competition between bears and the bulls, selling is being witnessed at higher levels, Aamar Deo Singh, Senior Vice President-Equity, Commodity & Currency atAngel One said. Given that the current trading week is truncated, investors are expected to be cautious as markets are trading at record highs, influenced by news flows and global sentiments, he added. Nifty closed with gains of 0.33% on a weekly basis thanks to Fed's dovish commentary. There were no major domestic triggers that could have supported the market. What do you expect in the holiday-shortened week? Aamar Deo Singh: Amidst the global investor sentiment that has been positive since the US Federal Reserve took an accommodating approach towards interest rate cuts in 2024, markets managed to recover last week and close in the green. Since the majority of international markets are still on the rise, the ripple effect can also be seen in home markets.

Many mid- and small-cap mutual funds have not fared well in Sebi’s stress test; Find out if your MFs are safe
Based on initial test outcomes, some funds have seemingly come out with flying colours. These funds will be able to offload a quarter or even half of their holdings within a matter of 2-3 days, if the need arises. On the other hand, there are a few surprises. For instance, the SBI Small Cap Fund may take up to 60 days to offload half of its portfolio when under stress (see graphic). These outliers are being perceived as risky. Are investors drawing the right conclusions? Are some funds illprepared for a doomsday scenario? Should you buy or exit a fund based on these test results? We attempt to filter out the noise around the much-hyped stress tests to find out whether investors need to be worried. Fund size matters

A 5-pointer going into the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Punjab Kings tie at the Chinnaswamy stadium today
BOWL-ERR RCB’s ’24 campaign is just a match old but their bowling was exposed during the 6-wicket defeat to CSK in the IPL opener. The spinners did not have enough resources to exploit a gradually slowingdown pitch as Mayank Dagar, Karn Sharma and Glenn Maxwell bowled five overs between them and managed 37 for 1, without troubling the batters after RCB scored 173 for 6 The RCB pacers blindly followed a shortpitch ball strategy. Mohammed Siraj, Alzarri Joseph, in particular, and Yash Dayal zealously used the quota of two bouncers per over but sacrificed their control over line and length. It reflected in their run-giving rate too — Siraj (9.5), Joseph (10.3), Dayal (9.3)

BJP government at Centre misusing probe agencies, people will give befitting reply: Punjab CM
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday accused the BJP government at the Centre of «misusing» federal probe agencies and said the public will give a befitting reply to it in the Lok Sabha polls. After holding a meeting with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs here, he said everyone in the party's Punjab unit has been standing like a rock with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate last Thursday in connection with an excise policy-linked money-laundering case. At the meeting with the legislators, Mann, who is also the AAP's Punjab unit chief, discussed a host of issues including Kejriwal's arrest, strategy for the Lok Sabha polls and the INDIA bloc's 'maha' rally on March 31. The meeting was also attended by the AAP's state unit working president Budh Ram, Punjab Assembly speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and deputy speaker Jai Kishan Singh.
