Lok Sabha elections 2024 begin soon: What will make it or break it for BJP, Congress and other parties
India, the world’s largest democracy, goes to polls starting April 19, 2024. Campaigning for the elections has been well underway for weeks now, with the Bharatiya Janata Party looking to bag a hat-trick of terms at the Centre while the Congress-led Opposition is trying to break the NDA’s decade-long stronghold. The BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed confidence in coming back to power, this time with a 400+ majority in the Lok Sabha. In 2019, the BJP won the majority as it swept the Hindi heartland and bagged 303 seats in the 543-seat-strong Lower House of the Parliament. The Election Commission formally kicked off the 2024 general election with the announcement of the poll schedule on Saturday. Lok Sabha polls for 543 seats will be held in seven phases starting with voting for 102 seats in the first phase on April 19. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.

Nifty Smallcap follows LIFO model, be picky; 3 top ideas for the week: Kunal Shah
Nifty Smallcap adheres to the LIFO model, where the last stocks to enter the index tend to be the first to exit during a bull market, says Kunal Shah, Senior Technical & Derivative analyst at LKP Securities. “Volatility is expected to persist in the near term, necessitating a stock-specific approach. Similarly, the Midcap Index is also likely to experience volatility, and investors should consider utilizing a disciplined investment strategy like SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) to add to the index or strong-value stocks during market dips,” he says. Edited excerpts from a chat: Nifty ended the week with a loss of around 2%. How big is the support at around 21,900-level for the coming week? Kunal Shah: The Nifty index maintains a bearish undertone as long as it remains below the level of 22250. Currently trading below its 20-day moving average, situated at 22220, a decisive break above this level would signal a potential reversal. However, the index faces a strong lower support zone at 21900-21850, and a breach below this on a closing basis could exacerbate selling pressure towards the 21500-21300 zone.

Bull market intact but corrections to continue for couple of months at least: Amisha Vora
Amisha Vora, Chairperson & MD, Prabhudas Lilladher, says “for quite some time, the sentiment was intact and the correction was shallow and this was not so broad-based. In the last 7-10 days, there was a broader correction across market caps,, less in Nifty but of course across market caps, a number of advance declines was also very sharp in favour of declines. Once a time like that comes, most of the people, their portfolios, their positions, their exposures get realigned. There are M2M related issues. So once that sets in, it takes a little time for things to stabilise and then the bull market to resurrect or the advance to resurrect.” Last few days have been pretty rocky as far as the broader markets are concerned. Which are the areas your clients have been nibbling in and you have been recommending them to buy? Amisha Vora: After a very long time, the correction looks a little broad-based and seems to have just started.

7 investment lies you might be believing and how to avoid them
Have you ever felt a little lost when it comes to investing? You're not alone! Many people struggle with myths and misconceptions that can make investing seem confusing. These myths can hold you back from reaching your financial goals. This guide will help you see through some common investing stories that might not be entirely true. Myth #1: Investing is only for the rich and requires a lot of work. This is a big one! Investing can actually be quite straightforward. There are options available that allow you to get started with just a little money, and you don't need to be a financial expert. Remember the story of Warren Buffett? This legendary investor proved that a simple investment plan, like an S&P 500 index fund, can be very successful over time. Myth #2: Saving all my money is enough for the future. Saving is a great habit, but inflation can slowly chip away at the value of your money over time. Think of it like this: if inflation is 5% and your savings account offers a return of 3%, you're actually losing buying power each year. To build wealth and reach your long-term goals, you might need to consider different options for your money, like stocks, bonds, or real estate. Myth #3: My Provident Fund will take care of everything when I retire. While your Provident Fund is helpful, it might not be enough to cover all your expenses after retirement, especially since people are living longer these days. Let's imagine someone who starts working at 30 and earns Rs. 50,000 a month. To maintain their current lifestyle after retirement at 85 (assuming inflation is 5%), they might need around Rs. 4 crores. However, their Provident Fund might only accumulate about Rs. 1.9 crores by retirement. This shows why it's

Political shake-up in Telangana: What BRS leader K Kavitha's arrest means for the state
BRS MLC K Kavitha in the Delhi excise case has sent shockwaves through Telangana's political landscape, prompting a reassessment of alliances and strategies ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress has accused the BJP and BRS of colluding to manipulate the electoral process, raising questions about the fairness of the upcoming polls. Allegations of Political Conspiracy The Congress's assertion that Kavitha's arrest was a politically motivated move by the BJP and BRS to gain an advantage in the elections has been met with strong denials from the ruling parties. However, the timing of the arrest, coming just before the election schedule was to be announced, has raised suspicions among opposition leaders.

Jairam Ramesh also said the party continues to demand unique bond ID numbers, so that it can precisely match donors to recipients. "The BJP's Hafta Vasooli strategy is simple raid a target through the ED/CBI/IT, and then seek hafta ("donations") for the company's protection. At least 14 of the top 30 donors have been raided," Ramesh alleged.
