UPL restructures, but debt clouds the reset
specialty chemicals and capital discipline.“We are not in that mood right now—just deleveraging,” Shroff said, almost matter-of-factly, when asked about fresh acquisitions. But analysts tracking the company are not sure yet.“Unresolved leverage concerns and post-restructuring dilution,” Nuvama Institutional Equities said in a note dated 22nd February, downgrading the stock to ‘hold’.The brokerage added that the exercise “keeps total debt similar even though redistributed between two entities”, with deleveraging contingent on future cash-flow generation. The backdrop to this reset is the bruising cycle that followed covid.

Trump tariff defeat triggers rupee rally; analysts see 89 level against dollar possible by March-end
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Mumbai: The rupee is likely to open stronger against the US dollar on Monday after the US Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s tariffs, prompting a recalibration of the North American country’s trade policy and reducing India’s effective tariff exposure to 15% from 18%. However, traders believe any near-term appreciation may be modest and short-lived, given lingering policy uncertainty and month-end dollar demand.

Germany's talent deficit pushes Siemens to make India a key global capability hub, says board member Judith Wiese
Judith Wiese, board member and chief people and sustainability officer at Siemens AG, cautioned that Germany will lose 15-20% of its workforce over the next decade due to demographics. And this is why India is “central” to Siemens' strategy of a capability hub.In an exclusive interaction with Mint, Wiese assuaged fears of AI-led layoffs, marked out workplace shifts since the pandemic and spoke on how data centres do guzzle energy, but that challenge needs to be dealt with responsibly. Some things have stayed since covid, particularly hybrid work. In India and China, more employees prefer working from the office.

Vedanta’s race against time to stabilize oil and gas output ahead of its mega demerger
Vedanta Ltd is in a race against time to shore up production levels at its oil and gas business that has declined each of the past 10 years.Higher production levels could bolster the business's financials, helping it fend for itself when it is housed in an independent company named Vedanta Oil & Gas Ltd.Over the past decade, ageing oil blocks have more than halved production at Vedanta’s oil and gas vertical from 211 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboepd) in FY15 to 103.2 kboepd in FY25. During the first nine months of FY26, average output stood at 89.1 kboepd—below the 95-100 kboepd guidance given by the company at the beginning of the year.To be sure, falling production at ageing blocks is a problem endemic to the oil and gas sector, with peers like Reliance Industries and Oil and Natural Gas Corp.

Human societies have long found ingenious ways to cope with extreme weather; and India is no exception. The ancient Kallanai dam in southern India, for example, built to divert the Kaveri River for irrigation, sustained fertile delta farming for centuries.
