Millions may receive $5,000 stimulus checks by 2026 if DOGE proposal gains momentum; here’s what needs to happen and all that you need to know
$5,000 stimulus checks in their bank accounts, because of the DOGE dividend proposal. The plan, which is being considered by the Trump administration, would give 20% of the savings from DOGE to taxpayers in the form of $5,000 checks, The Sun reported. Billionaire Elon Musk, the driving force behind DOGE, or the Department of Government Efficiency to reduce federal expenditure, has pledged to save US taxpayers $2 trillion, according to reports. The suggestion to return part of these savings to American consumers was initially brought forth by James Fishback, the CEO of investment firm Bay West Capital and has gained the attention of US president Donald Trump and Musk.

Is LIC stock undervalued? Kotak Equities suggests buying with Rs 1,175 target
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) looks inexpensive, domestic brokerage firm Kotak Institutional Equities has maintained a ‘buy’ call on the stock, revising its target down to Rs 1,175 from an earlier Rs 1,250, to reflect a lower investment return following the recent correction in equities. “The correction in equities and a severe slowdown in business, following the surrender value guidelines, continue to weigh on the prospects of LIC. Trends in (equity) markets have high sensitivity and drive over 50% of its EV. The slowdown in APE and management’s stance on dealing with the same are monitorable. Inexpensive valuations support our BUY rating,” said the domestic brokerage firm.

Two arrested in Auckland schools threat email case
New Zealand police on Thursday (March 13, 2025) arrested two people and charged one of them in the case involving two schools which had received threat emails. Police launched an investigation to trace the threat email and zeroed in on an address in Māngere East. The officers then arrested a 20-year-old man and a woman. The man was later charged with the possession of a firearm. According to a New Zealand news portal, acting Counties Manukau District Commander Inspector Alison Brand informed that the duo taken into custody did not offer any resistance when they were confronted by the officers. «Investigation staff have been speaking with both of these individuals throughout the day. This is still very much an active investigation and we are limited in further comment at this stage,» said Brand. “Police have now charged a 20-year-old man with a firearms offence. This relates to a firearm located at a different property," she added. Police will produce the man before the Manukau District Court on Friday and may press more charges against him. The entire operation was carried out after a search warrant issued at the address on Thursday morning.

After Hitachi Energy’s Rs 2,000-crore raise, Rs 1,250 crore Home First QIP likely
Home First Finance is likely to launch a qualified institutional placement (QIP) next week to raise up to ₹1,250 crore, according to people familiar with the development. The development follows Hitachi Energy's successful ₹2,000 crore fundraising earlier this week, breaking a one-month dry spell in QIPs. Home First Finance plans to use the proceeds to expand its loan portfolio and strengthen its asset base. The company had announced in January that additional capital was required to meet its future business goals. Its assets under management, which stood at ₹11,949 crore at the end of December 2024, are targeted to grow to ₹20,000 crore by the end of March 2027.

Pakistan train hijack: Critical phase of Baloch insurgency
Pakistan security forces on Wednesday claimed to have rescued at least 155 passengers and killed 27 Baloch rebels as the rescue operation continues into the second day after terrorists hijacked the Jaffer Express train near Balochistan’s Bolan district. Pakistan Railway officials said that around 750 passengers had booked to travel by the Jaffar Express, but the train left Quetta with around 450 people onboard. Sources said that over 200 security personnel were also travelling on the same train. Balochistan is experiencing its worst phase of insurgency of all the four phases it has witnessed since 1948, a security expert told ET. This phase could be the defining moment in Balochistan’s history and its fight with Punjabi-dominated Pakistan governance structure. The daring nature of the hijack reflects a major Intelligence failure of the ISI and Pakistan Army, a source pointed out. Chinese reaction to the incident will be keenly watched. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has threatened to execute ten Pakistani hostages following drone strikes and artillery shelling by Pakistani forces amid the ongoing hostage crisis in Balochistan’s Bolan district.
