Investing.com — Salesforce (NYSE:CRM) lifted annual guidance after reporting second-quarter results that topped Wall Street estimates as the software company touted improved demand for the second half of the year.

Investing.com — U.S. stock futures traded in a mixed fashion Thursday, as investors await the release of key inflation and unemployment data that could convince the Federal Reserve to pause on further interest rate increases.

Iran accused Israel on Thursday of trying to sabotage its ballistic missile program through faulty foreign parts that could explode, damaging or destroying the weapons before they could be used. Israel did not immediately acknowledge the accusation, made in a report aired on Iranian state television. The report described the alleged Israeli operation as «one of the biggest attempts at sabotage» it had ever seen. It accused Israeli Mossad agents of supplying the faulty parts, which the state TV report described as low-price «connectors.» Footage aired by state TV showed the alleged parts, some of them popping up into the air. The report did not say when authorities discovered the faulty parts, nor if they had been installed in any ballistic missile prior.

The task force will also look to further the strategic partnership between India and U.S.

Klarna Bank reported on Thursday a much smaller six-month operating loss than a year earlier and said it had reached profitability on a monthly basis ahead of target. The January-June operating loss at the privately held (BNPL) fintech, which last made a full-year profit in 2018, was 2.01 billion crowns ($185 million) against a year-earlier loss of 6.17 billion crowns. «We posted a small profit in May,» CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski told Reuters. «We feel very confident that we'll be posting a profitable quarter very soon and then eventually also a full profitable year.» Klarna allows shoppers to buy online through its merchant partners and settle their dues in instalments using its «buy now, pay later» (BNPL) service. In May, it said it was on track to reach profitability on a monthly basis in the second half of the year. Last year, business conditions deteriorated as soaring inflation and the war in Ukraine hit consumer confidence, prompting it to cut staff and sending its valuation tumbling. Siemiatkowski said in the interview that Klarna had no need in the foreseeable future to raise more funds. Klarna last raised funds in 2022 at a valuation of $6.7 billion, down around 85% from the $46 billion price tag it attracted in 2021.

Despite this, fibre penetration to telecom towers, which is critical for effective 5G services, in India is 38.44%, significantly lagging the 70% tower fiberisation target set by the government and lower than developed markets where 5G has been launched, experts said. “The 5G rollout has had a significant impact on the pace of digital and telecom infrastructure development in India,” TR Dua, director general, Digital Infrastructure Providers Association of India (DIPA) told ET. The total length of optical fibre laid out as on June 30, 2023 was 3,726,577 kms, as compared to 2,812,627 kms as on September 2022 end, according to data provided by DIPA. While tower fiberisation has picked up pace since the rollout of 5G, industry executives are in consensus that fibre penetration needs to ramp up significantly to be able to reap the full benefits of 5G services. Tower fiberisation is critical to 5G services as it helps provide full utilisation of network capacity and carry large amounts of data once 5G services are rolled out. “With growing data demand and emerging technologies like Industry 4.0, constant network expansion and robust 5G connectivity will be crucial, presenting a significant opportunity for (companies like) Indus Towers,” Prachur Shah, managing director and chief executive, Indus Towers, India’s largest tower company, said. Before 5G rollout, fibre penetration was at around 35% and has now moved to around 38.44% according to data provided by DIPA.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) share price rallied over 2% to hit a 52-week high in the early trade on Thursday after the company bagged an order worth ₹15,530 crore from state-run NTPC for a thermal power plant. BHEL shares rose as much as 2.35% to ₹121.45 apiece on the BSE. BHEL has secured the order for setting up the 2x800 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Project Stage-II at Lara in Chhattisgarh for NTPC.
