Musk's DOGE gig for Trump bleeds him dry but Tesla offers opportunity to make money
Elon Musk acknowledged that his job as head of President Donald Trump’s effort to cut the size of government is “costing me a lot” when it comes to his other big job, as CEO of Tesla Inc. Political backlash from Musk’s recent political forays in the US and around the world have weighed on Tesla at home and abroad. “It’s costing me a lot to be in this job,” Musk said at a town hall event in Wisconsin, noting some of his political opponents have highlighted the stock’s retreat. “What they’re trying to do is put massive pressure on me, and Tesla I guess, to you know, I don’t know, stop doing this,” Musk said. “My Tesla stock and the stock of everyone who holds Tesla has gone, went roughly in half. I mean it’s a big deal.” Tesla shares rose to a record high in the month after Trump was elected, but have dropped 45% since their Dec. 17 peak. While he remains the world’s richest man, Musk’s own personal wealth has declined by more than $100 billion this year, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. “Long term I think Tesla stock’s going to do fine, so maybe it’s a buying opportunity,” Musk said.

Protesters target 277 Tesla locations in US over Elon Musk's government role, demand resignation
Tesla dealerships to express their opposition to billionaire Elon Musk's involvement in the US government, Al Jazeera reported. Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has faced criticism for his efforts to cut government spending and access sensitive data. The protests, organised by a group including disgruntled Tesla owners, celebrities, and a Democratic lawmaker, aim to pressure Musk to resign from his government position. Saturday's demonstrations marked the first coordinated effort to target all 277 Tesla locations in the US, as per Al Jazeera. In New York City, hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Manhattan Tesla store, demanding Musk's resignation. These demonstrations coincide with a decline in Tesla sales, which the organizers hope to exacerbate further. The protesters were gathered at the call of environmentalists from Planet Over Profit, who believe that «stopping Musk will save lives and protect our democracy.»

'I am almost done...': Elon Musk reveals date he'll 'ditch Trump' and quit Washington DC after DOGE purge
Elon Musk has revealed the date he plans to 'ditch US President Donald Trump' and leave Washington DC after his DOGE purge of Federal departments. The Tesla CEO sat down with key members of his DOGE team to discuss the work his team has carried out for the first few months of Trump's administration. Elon Musk plans to step down from his cost-cutting role in the Trump administration at the end of May after reducing the US deficit by $1 trillion, the tech billionaire said on Thursday, according to The Fox News. Musk, 54, expressed confidence in getting close to that goal, which would halve the annual federal deficit, in just 130 days — saying his team was averaging “$4 billion a day, every day, seven days a week.” ALSO READ: Myanmar earthquake: Emergency declared in Bangkok; Thailand's stock exchange suspends trading

Some Ferrari cars to get costlier by 10% in the US, thanks to Trump's 25% auto tariffs
US auto tariffs, the luxury carmaker said. Ferrari said it would stick largely to its financial targets for this year, according to a report in news agency Reuters. The new levies on cars and light trucks will take effect on April 3. Ferrari announced that pricing for models imported before April 2 will remain unchanged. However, starting from that date, “new import conditions will be partially reflected in pricing,” with increases of up to 10%. This means the Maranello, Italy-based automaker will absorb part of the 25% tariff hike introduced by Trump on Wednesday. «The commercial terms will remain unchanged for orders of all models imported before April 2, 2025, and for orders of the following three families — Ferrari 296, SF90 and Roma — regardless the import date. For the current remaining models, the new import conditions will be partially reflected on pricing, up to a maximum 10 per cent increase,» the company said in a statement. Donald Trump blasted by global leaders over auto tariffs. Will US President hold or withdraw duties order?

Global stock markets plummeted with automakers like Toyota, Hyundai and Mercedes leading the plunge. In New York, shares in General Motors tumbled with Ford and Stellantis also declining. Is Tesla-killer BYD chasing Elon Musk to India?
Tesla struggles with falling sales and share price and global protests against his brand for his support to US President Donald Trump, its CEO Elon Musk looks at India with hope. Long seen as a potential disruptor for India's EV, Tesla is finally entering India, opening a showroom in Mumbai to sell its imported cars and has plans to set up a manufacturing plant in Maharashtra. However, Tesla has lost years dilly-dallying on its India entry and meanwhile Indian EV makers have grown enough to make things difficult for it. Many think the company may not after all be able to disrupt the Indian market in any significant way nor reap any huge dividends. Tesla may face another big challenge in India. Its global rival BYD (Build Your Dreams), which sells cars imported from China in India, could be planning to manufacture in the country. According to unconfirmed media reports, the Chinese EV giant is planning to set up a factory in Telangana. BYD, together with Indian EV makers such as Mahindra and Tata; the JV between India's JSW and China's MG Motor; and Korean and Japanese automakers CAN make it difficult for Tesla to benefit from the Indian market in any substantial way.

Supreme Court sides with Biden and upholds regulations of ghost guns to make them traceable
Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a Biden administration regulation on the nearly impossible-to-trace weapons called ghost guns, clearing the way for serial numbers, background checks and age verification requirements to buy them in kits online. Ghost guns were found at crime scenes in soaring numbers across the US before the regulation went into place, rising from fewer than 1,700 recovered by law enforcement in 2017 to more than 27,000 in 2023, according to Justice Department data. Since the federal rule was finalised, ghost gun numbers have flattened out or declined in several major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Baltimore, according to court documents. Manufacturing of miscellaneous gun parts also dropped 36 per cent overall, the Justice Department has said. Ghost guns are any privately made firearms without the serial numbers that allow police to trace weapons used in crime. The 2022 regulation was focused on kits sold online with everything needed to build a functioning firearm — sometimes in less than 30 minutes, according to court documents. ALSO READ: 'Elon, I want to thank you': Trump makes it official, makes big statement amid Tesla Takedown protests Ghost guns have been used in high-profile crimes, including a mass shooting carried out with an AR-15-style ghost gun in Philadelphia that left five people dead.
