National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the registration deadline for the Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduate courses (CUET UG 2024). Candidates now have until March 31 (9:50 pm) to apply for the entrance exam, according to the revised schedule. The deadline for online submission of the application form for the CUET-UG – 2024 has been extended to 31 March 2024 (Up to 09:50 P.M.) based on the request received from candidates and other stakeholders. Australia has released details of the schedule for their upcoming home summer, which includes the visit of India for the five-match Test series with Perth to host the opening Test. The five-match Test series against Rohit Sharma's side will commence in Perth on November 22, with further Tests to be held in Adelaide (day-night), Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney right up until the start of the New Year. It will be the first time since the summer of 1991/92 that Australia and India have played a five-match series as part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will provide both teams with a good opportunity to further cement their place in next year's ICC World Test Championship final.

SWIFT, the global messaging network used by banks, service providers, clearinghouses, corporate business houses, brokers, is planning to launch a new platform to connect central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) in the next one to two years, according to a Reuters report citing the firm’s head of innovation, Nick Kerigan.

Messaging cooperative Swift has set itself the task of ensuring interoperability between digital currencies and tokenised assets to overcome the potential risk of fragmentation, caused by the use of different technologies and with different standards and protocols. Last year it carried out sandbox testing that showed its connector technology could enable cross-border transfers and connect CBDCs on different networks with each other, as well as with fiat currencies.

Madhya Pradesh, Bhupendra Singh Dhakat, learned printing skills while in jail and later used them to produce fake currency notes, authorities revealed. Dhakat was apprehended by the police after they found 95 counterfeit notes of Rs 200 each at his residence in Sironj. Along with the fake notes, a color printer, ink bottles, and paper used for making the counterfeit currency were also seized. Dhakat admitted to circulating the fake money in the district for several months. He has a history of 11 criminal cases, including murder, and has been in and out of jail. During his last incarceration, he acquired printing skills through a vocational program aimed at helping inmates reintegrate into society post-release. Instead of using his skills for good, Dhakat resorted to illegal activities. Despite being banned from multiple districts, he managed to continue his illicit operations. According to the jail superintendent, prisoners receive printing training to support themselves after release. The case highlights the challenges of rehabilitation post-prison and the misuse of acquired skills for criminal activities.

US military plans to bolster functions of its command headquarters in Japan, as it aims for smoother cooperation with the Asian country's self-defence forces in tackling security threats posed by China and North Korea according to diplomatic sources cited by Kyodo news agency. Japan and the United States will also work on further steps to enhance their response capabilities, Kyodo reported. Tokyo had in 2022 decided to acquire the capability to strike enemy bases even under Japan's war-renouncing Constitution. Also, Japan is set to establish a joint headquarters to command its ground, maritime and air forces by the end of March 2025 with Kishida's government is aiming to deepen cooperation between the US military and the joint headquarters.

Bharat Biotech International Ltd on Sunday said it started clinical trials of the Tuberculosis vaccine Mtbvac on adults in India. This is the first vaccine against Tuberculosis derived from a human source by the Spanish biopharmaceutical company, Biofabri, a press release from Bharat Biotech said. The release said that Mtbvac is being developed for two purposes; firstly, as a more effective and potentially longer-lasting vaccine than BCG ( Bacillus Calmette Guerin) for newborns and secondly, for the prevention of TB in adults and adolescents, for whom there is currently no effective vaccine. The trials are carried out by Bharat Biotech in close collaboration with Biofabri. Trials to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of Mtbvac have started with a pivotal safety, immunogenicity and efficacy trial which has been planned to start in 2025, the release said. It is a giant step to test in adults and adolescents in the country where 28 per cent of the world's TB cases accumulate.
