Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company Ltd. traded 0.36 per cent up in Wednesday's trade at 10:46AM (IST). Around 7,797 shares changed hands on the counter.

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. rose 0.45 per cent to Rs 318.9 in Wednesday's trade. It hit an intraday high of Rs 321.4 and low of Rs 313.55, respectively, during the day.

Life Insurance Corporation of India share price gained more than 2% in morning trades on Wednesday helping its market cap cross the ₹5.8 Lakh Crore mark as it touched 52 week highs of ₹919.45 a piece. LIC market cap thereby surpassed market cap State Bank Of India (SBI) . SBI share price was down 1% on the BSE while its market cap stood at around ₹5.62 Lakh Crore .

BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty also witnessed a sharp selloff. Tensions in the Middle East and dimming rate cut hopes by the US Fed also weakened the sentiment, especially after a sharp rally to record-high levels. The benchmark Sensex tanked more than 1,100 points at open, while the Nifty began trading 395 points lower below 21,650.

US Central Command. The US carried out strikes after Houthi launched an anti-ship ballistic missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen into international shipping lanes in the Southern Red Sea. The strikes on Tuesday, the third against Houthi since a US-led air and naval barrage hit dozens of targets last week and destroyed four missiles that the US Central Command said posed an imminent threat to merchant vessels and Navy ships travelling through the Red Sea and nearby waters, The New York Times reported.

Houthi rebels fired a missile that struck a U.S.-owned ship Monday just off the coast of Yemen in the Gulf of Aden, less than a day after they launched an anti-ship cruise missile toward an American destroyer in the Red Sea. The attack on the Gibraltar Eagle, later claimed by the Houthis, further escalates tensions gripping the Red Sea after American-led strikes on the rebels. The Houthis' attacks have roiled global shipping, amid Israel's war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, targeting a crucial corridor linking Asian and Mideast energy and cargo shipments to the Suez Canal onward to Europe. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, which oversees Mideast waters, said Monday's attack happened some 110 miles (177 kilometers) miles southeast of Aden.

Day trading guide for today: Domestic equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 snapped their five-day winning streak in the previous session on profit booking in shares of select heavyweights, including Reliance Industries, Infosys, TCS and HCL Tech amid weak global cues. The domestic market spent most of the day in negative territory on January 16, but it experienced a brief upswing during the session, pushing the benchmarks to achieve new record highs. However, the indices erased all gains upon closing.
