Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare, in its latest report, has expressed concerns over the functioning of India's drug regulatory authority-Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO)-saying that the current licensing process is plagued by delays, inconsistent timelines, and a lack of transparency, hindering the growth of the medical device industry. «The Committee expresses serious concern that due to rigid process and inordinate delays by CDSCO, a large number of manufacturing units have gone to Vietnam and Malaysia. Rather, several medical devices manufacturers are scared to set up a unit in India due to delaying tactics of the CDSCO,» it said.

The victim, Riyaz Ahmad Bajad, a resident of the tribal area of Chandian Pajan in Kulgam district of southern Kashmir, in his late 20s, went missing on February 13 along with two others, Mukhtar and Showkat from Kulgam, when they were on their way to attend a function. The family registered a complaint when it found they could not be reached as their phones were switched off. The families went from pillar to post to raise the issue but only after the matter was raised by legislators in the ongoing budget session of the assembly. Bajad's body was found in Veshow Nallah in Mah area of Kulgam. «This is what we feared the most, as the forces picked up our men earlier as well but released them after a few days. Now we want the other two people alive,» said a relative of Bajad, who did not wish to be identified. «It seems hot liquid was poured on his head. He didn't have a single strand of hair.» Police informed the family about the body and later handed it over to the family members after medico-legal formalities, said the relative. «The condition of the body was such that we couldn't even bathe it properly,» he said. Bajad is survived by a six-month old baby girl.

T61-64 classification is for those athletes who are competing with prosthesis affected by limb deficiency and leg length difference. «I am happy with my performance. It's fun moments here in India. I will be coming back here for the World Para Athletics Championships (in September),» Vanessa said after the event.

Governor Sanjay Malhotra on Thursday said that the lack of bankable green projects slowed the adequate flow of credit and a collaborative approach could address this constraint. «Capacity and expertise constraints limit the ability to appraise and thus finance climate change mitigation. It also enhances the risk of funding such projects. Thus, creation of a common pool of such bankable projects will have multi-fold benefits for the entire ecosystem,» Malhotra said at a seminar on climate change risks and finance organised by the central bank in New Delhi. He stressed upon capacity building and improving technical know-how to better appraise risks in financing projects which use green technologies.
