Egypt in touch with Hamas and Israel in search of Gaza ceasefire deal, sources say
Egypt was in contact with senior Hamas and Israeli figures as well as other mediators on Sunday in an effort to restart negotiations for a truce in the Gaza Strip during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which begins on Monday or Tuesday, two Egyptian security sources said. Egypt's contacts with Hamas and Israeli intelligence agency Mossad on Sunday were carried out under a mandate from the Egyptian presidency in an effort to bring the two sides' divergent positions together, the sources said, without providing further details.

The rock star who defected to North Korea — and now regrets it
The 1960s were a turbulent time. Assassinations, riots, civil rights protests, and angry opposition to the war in Vietnam. This unrest wasn’t confined to North America, either. It seemed that the whole world was about to come apart at the seams.

An effort to get aid to Gaza by sea is moving ahead. But the first ship is still waiting in Cyprus
US Army vessel carrying equipment for building a temporary pier in Gaza was on its way to the Mediterranean on Sunday, three days after US President Joe Biden announced plans to increase aid deliveries by sea to the besieged enclave where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are going hungry. The new push for aid came in the final hours before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which could start as early as Sunday evening, depending on the sighting of a crescent moon. Hopes for a new cease-fire by Ramadan faded days ago with negotiations apparently stalled. The opening of the sea corridor, along with airdrops by the US, Jordan and others, showed growing alarm over Gaza's deadly humanitarian crisis and a new willingness to bypass Israeli control over land shipments. Israel said that it welcomed the sea deliveries and would inspect Gaza-bound cargo before it leaves a staging area in nearby Cyprus.

Netanyahu approach to Gaza war 'hurting Israel more than helping': Joe Biden
Joe Biden said Benjamin Netanyahu's approach to the war in Gaza was «hurting Israel more than helping Israel» in an interview aired Saturday, as the US leader's impatience with his Israeli counterpart grows increasingly visible. With Gaza's humanitarian crisis growing more dire and Biden's left flank in uproar, the US president made contradictory remarks as to the question of a «red line» over Israel's threatened offensive on Rafah in southern Gaza.

US-led coalition shoots down 15 Yemen rebel drones: CENTCOM
Iran-backed Yemeni rebels into the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden on Saturday, the US military said. Shortly afterwards, the rebels claimed the attack, saying they had fired missiles at an «American» commercial ship and launched drones at US warships in «the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden». It was one of the Huthis' largest attacks since they began in November a campaign of drone and missile strikes against vessels in the Red Sea area, vital for world trade, in professed solidarity with Palestinians during Israel's war against Iran-backed Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.

humanitarian aid airdrop fell on a group of men, teenagers and young kids because of a failure in the opening of the parachute.
