Enforcement Directorate (ED) Tuesday carried out searches at various premises situated in Haryana and Punjab in connection with an alleged VAT scam of ₹10,618 crore. According to the agency, various entities were incorporated by a syndicate of persons namely Amit Bansal, Harish Biyani, Kamal Bansal, Monil Bansal, Mahesh Bansal, Padam Bansal and Rishi Gupta for allegedly claiming false interstate sale of taxable commodities without any movement of goods. Thus, the sale was claimed at concessional rate of tax against «C» forms, resulting in claim of false input tax credit and ultimately getting fraudulent refunds causing loss to the public exchequer, people in the know said.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) had in March refused to grant the applicant and some others interim relief from Google's app payment policies until it reached a final verdict. The IBDF's counsel has now urged the NCLAT to stop Google from collecting fees on the transactions of apps listed on the Google Play Store, including for paid app downloads and in-app purchases.

Niva Bupa Health Insurance has filed the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) to raise ₹3,000 crore through an initial public offering (IPO). The standalone health insurance firm will be the second health insurer listed on Indian stock exchanges, following Star Health and Allied Insurance. The IPO will include a fresh issue of shares to raise ₹800 crore for improving solvency ratio and operating expenses, and an offer for sale by existing shareholders, British United Provident Fund Bupa and Fettle Tone LLP, amounting to ₹2,200 crore. According to draft papers, the health insurance company is considering a pre-IPO placement of up to ₹160 crore, which would reduce the size of the fresh issue. The company plans to allocate 75% of the net offer to qualified institutional buyers, 15% to non-institutional bidders, and 10% to retail investors.

Starting July 14, domestic workers can transfer their visas under specific conditions, as reported by Gulf News. These conditions include obtaining approval from their current employer, having a minimum residency period of one year with the current employer, and paying a transfer fee of 50 dinars (approximately Dh600). Additionally, there is a charge of 10 dinars for each year of service with the current employer. The announcement follows a three-month amnesty period, which ended in June, that allowed expatriates residing unlawfully in Kuwait to regularize their status. Options included paying penalties, obtaining new residency, or leaving the country without fines.

Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its judgement on a PIL of an NGO which alleged a rise in child marriages in the country and non-implementation of the relevant statute in «letter and spirit». A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra heard submissions from the counsel of the petitioner, 'Society for Enlightenment and Voluntary Action', and Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Centre, before reserving the verdict.
