Reserve Bank of India has permitted banks to use the ratings of Brickwork Ratings India Private Limited, two years after the central bank had instructed its regulated entities that no fresh ratings would be obtained from the firm, which was pulled up by regulators for discrepancies. “On a review, banks are hereby permitted to use the ratings of the CRA (Brickwork Ratings) for risk weighting their claims for capital adequacy purposes...,” the RBI said in a statement on Wednesday. Listing out certain conditions, the RBI said that in respect of fresh rating mandates, rating may be obtained from Brickwork Ratings for bank loans not exceeding Rs 250 crore. In respect of existing ratings, Brickwork may undertake rating surveillance irrespective of the rated amount for the residual tenure of such loans, the RBI said.

compensation cess levied on imported goods under Goods and Services Tax (GST) to businesses operating in special economic zones and their developers effective 2017. The Central Board of Indirect Tax and Customs also directed issuance of refunds of 5% GST collected on food packages intended for the public distribution system (PDS). These refunds could total about ₹6,500 crore, people familiar with the matter said. The move follows a recent GST Council decision exempting imports by SEZ units and developers retrospectively from July 1, 2017 — the date of introduction of GST.

According to BSE data, Godrej Seeds bought 30.56 lakh shares at ₹1,367.05 apiece. Three trusts belonging to the Godrej Enterprises Group (GEG) — BNG Successor Trust, HNG Family Trust, and SNG Successor Trust — sold shares worth ₹101.84 crore, ₹136.7 crore, and ₹179.35 crore, respectively.

Bajaj Finance reported 10% year-on-year growth in new loans booked in the quarter ended June 30, 2024, at 10.97 million compared to 9.94 million it booked in the corresponding period of the last financial year. The company's deposits book stood at approximately Rs 62,750 crore as of June 30, 2024, as compared to Rs 49,944 crore as of June 30, 2023, registering 26% YoY growth. The assets under management (AUM) grew by 31% to approximately Rs 3,54,100 crore as of June 30, 2024, as compared to Rs 2,70,097 crore on June 30, 2023. AUM in Q1 FY25 grew by approximately Rs 23,500 crore.

commerce ministry on Wednesday clarified that the interest equalisation will be capped at Rs 1.66 crore per IEC (import-export code) for the July 1-August 31 period. Last month, the government extended the interest equalisation scheme (IES) on pre- and post-shipment rupee export credit for two months to promote the country's outbound shipments. The scheme, which provides exporters interest benefits, ended on June 30 this year. In a trade notice, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said the scheme extended on June 28, 2-24 is applicable only to MSME manufacturer exporters, who are eligible for IES benefit of 3 per cent.

RBI on Friday said it has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.31 crore on Punjab National Bank for non-compliance with certain directions related to KYC and 'loans and advances'. The Reserve Bank said it conducted a statutory inspection of the bank with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2022. A notice was issued to the bank. After considering the bank's reply to the notice, RBI said it found that PNB sanctioned working capital demand loans to two state government-owned corporations against amounts receivable from government by way of subsidies/ refunds/ reimbursements.

Vodafone Idea has reached out to the Department of Telecom to seek waiver on a financial bank guarantee worth Rs 24,747 crore for spectrum payment due in September 2025, according to sources. Vodafone Idea (VIL) needs to securitize the annual instalment one year before the due date of the payment. «Vodafone Idea has reached out to DoT seeking waiver for financial bank guarantee (FBG) worth Rs 24,747 crore which it has to pay in September 2025. The FBG needs to be deposited one year before the due date as per spectrum auction rules,» a source, who did not wish to be identified, told PTI. An email query sent to Vodafone Idea elicited no response.
