Paddy purchase declines as farmers hold back in run-up to elections
NEW DELHI : Government procurement of paddy has fallen as farmers hold back on selling their crop, hoping for sops ahead of Assembly elections in five states this year. The union government, through the federal Food Corporation of India (FCI) and state agencies, has procured 14.7 million tonnes (mt) of paddy in the ongoing kharif marketing season that started on 1 October, as against 15.9 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year. The slow progress is due to farmers holding back their crops in the hope of bonuses or special announcements ahead of the five state assembly elections from 7 November this year, a government official said.

Patanjali Foods, the listed consumer packaged foods arm of Patanjali Ayurveda, would be moved out of the additional surveillance measure (ASM) framework from November 1, as per a circular issued by the stock exchanges on October 31. Apart from Patanjali Foods, a number of other securities including Lakshmi Precision Screws, Reliance Capital, Goenka Diamond and Jewels, Digjam, Sumeet Industries, Sintex Plastics Technology, Future Enterprises, Future Supply Chain Solutions, Eastern Silk Industries, Metalyst Forging and Educomp Solutions would be moved out of the ASM framework, according to the circulars issued by the bourses. Notably, the ASM is an initiative of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to put certain securities under a monitoring framework.

Electoral bonds generated donations worth over ₹9,188 crore in last 6 years; BJP emerges as biggest beneficiary
₹9,188 crore for all political parties, put together between 2016-22. Among all the parties, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) earned a total of 57 per cent of the donations generated through electoral bonds, according to data released by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR). Between 2016-17 and 2021-22, the last year for which the data is available, seven national parties and 24 regional parties received a total donation of ₹9,188.35 crore through electoral bonds.
