China revamping Belt and Road Initiative: Report
China is revamping the Belt and Road Initiative, which has pumped billions of dollars in grants and loans into developing countries over the last ten years. This comes as the country attempts to rein in the risks that plagued its earlier investments, according to a new report released on Monday, The Hill reported. China has shifted its attention to reducing the risk of not being repaid, its exposure to environmental, social, or governance (ESG) factors, and potential damage to its reputation in the developing world, the report from AidData, a research lab at William & Mary, found. The report said: "Beijing has launched a far-reaching effort to de-risk the (Belt and Road Initiative) by refocusing its time, money, and attention on distressed borrowers, troubled projects, and sources of public backlash in the Global South." «It is learning from its mistakes and becoming an increasingly adept international crisis manager,» it added. With more than half of its loans now in repayment, China is facing the fallout from the lack of guardrails in place at the outset of its Belt and Road Initiative.

Kate Middleton wears full camouflage, drives armored vehicle as she takes on new military role
The Queen's Dragoon Guards Regiment as their colonel in chief on Wednesday. Earlier in the year, King Charles appointed Kate with the additional royal titles of commodore-in-chief of the Fleet Air Arm and the royal honorary air commodore of Royal Air Force Coningsby. The regiment, known as The Welsh Cavalry, holds a distinguished place in the British Army's Royal Armoured Corps and stands as the senior regiment of the British Army's lineage. Originating in 1959 from the merger of two dragoon guards units, the regiment boasts a storied history, having played active roles in various conflicts, including the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. During her visit, Princess Kate engaged with the regiment's senior officers and had the opportunity to observe service operations. Clad in full camouflage attire, she tested her hand at driving an armored vehicle, drone, and high mobility weapons platform. In addition to her interactions with personnel and their families, Kate commemorated the sacrifice of members lost in active service, just ahead of the Commonwealth's Remembrance Day.

China owed more than $1 trillion in Belt and Road debt: report
China is owed more than a trillion dollars through its Belt and Road project, making it the biggest debt collector in the world, a report said this week, with an estimated 80 percent of the loans supporting countries in financial distress. Beijing says upwards of 150 countries stretching from Uruguay to Sri Lanka have signed up to the BRI, a vast global infrastructure push unveiled by President Xi Jinping a decade ago. The first decade of the initiative saw China distribute huge loans to fund the construction of bridges, ports and highways in low and middle-income countries. But much more than half of those loans have now entered their principal repayment period, said a report released Monday by AidData, a research institute tracking development finance at Virginia's College of William and Mary. That figure is set to hit 75 percent by the end of the decade, it added. Crunching data compiled on Chinese financing of almost 21,000 projects across 165 countries, AidData said Beijing had now committed aid and credit «hovering around $80 billion a year» to low and middle-income nations. The United States, in contrast, has provided $60 billion to such countries a year. «Beijing is navigating an unfamiliar and uncomfortable role — as the world's largest official debt collector,» the report said.

CIA Director arrives in Israel amid raging conflict
William J Burns, arrived in Israel on Sunday to hold discussions with leaders and intelligence officials, the first stop in a multi-country trip in the region, New York Times reported citing US officials. The visit comes as the US is trying to prod Israel to pursue a more targeted approach to attacking Hamas, allow pauses in the fighting for aid to enter Gaza and do more to avoid civilian casualties, according to NYT. Washington is also looking to expand its intelligence sharing with Tel Aviv, providing information that could be useful about hostage locations or any follow-on attacks by Hamas. A US official briefed on Burns' trip said that he planned to reinforce the American commitment to intelligence cooperation with partners in the region. Burns will travel to several Middle Eastern countries for discussions about the situation in Gaza, ongoing hostage negotiations and the importance of deterring the war with Hamas from widening to a broader context, NYT reported citing the US official. US officials have been visiting Israel at a regular cadence since war broke out after Hamas fighters attacked Israeli towns on October 7 and killed more than 1,400 people. Israel has retaliated with a massive counteroffensive including air campaign and ground invasion into Gaza, where Hamas is in control. More than 9,000 Palestinians have been killed in airstrikes since Israel began retaliating, according to Gaza's health ministry.

Chris Harrison marries Lauren Zima in two wedding ceremonies
Chris Harrison, the former host of popular reality TV shows like The Bachelor and its spinoffs, including The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise, recently tied the knot with producer Lauren Zima. Their joyous union was celebrated through two separate ceremonies in beautiful locations. The first ceremony occurred on October 14 in Napa Valley, California, while the second took place on November 4 in Austin, Texas, where the couple currently resides. Both Chris and Lauren shared the news on Instagram, with Lauren expressing her excitement by writing, «We're married ❤️ Let the journey begin….» Their special day was made even more memorable by the musical talents of William Beckman, who performed at the ceremony. In a touching tribute to Lauren's late father, Gary Zima, who passed away in 2010, Beckman serenaded the couple with their favorite song, «Summer Wind» by Frank Sinatra, during their first dance. The choice of California's wine country for their nuptials held sentimental significance for the couple, as it was the very place where Chris proposed to Lauren in October 2021.

India vs South Africa, World Cup 2023: When and where to watch IND vs SA match today?
Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, who were part of the 2011 World Cup squad with a similar track record. In the 2011 WC edition, India's only defeat came at the hands of South Africa, with an unexpected hero in Robin Peterson, who smashed Ashish Nehra for 19 runs after the Indian batting lineup faltered in Nagpur, despite a century from Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli, just one century short of his 49th ODI hundred, and Ashwin are the sole remaining members of that victorious 2011 team in the current squad. As they approach this pivotal match, Rohit Sharma's team must remain vigilant to avoid complacency and strive to replicate the remarkable achievement of the 2007 Australian team, which clinched the World Cup without a single loss.

Upcycled waste takes the heat out of cement’s emissions
Australia’s manufacturing sector requires huge amounts of heat and that hasn’t really changed since our first factories were built. While there’s now plenty of robots and advanced electronics in some industries, heavy industrial manufacturing such as the production of steel and cement hasn’t really changed in over 100 years.

Over 45 smallcap stocks gain 10-40% as Sensex snaps 2-week losing streak; do you own?
BSE Sensex snapped its two-week losing streak and gained nearly one per cent, supported by the US Federal Reserve's rate pause which triggered a rise in global equities and a sharp correction in US bond yields. While geopolitical risks on the Israel-Hamas war persist, they have had limited impact on the market's overall trajectory. The resilience of the global markets will be crucial in determining the sustainability of the positive momentum, according to analysts.
