Citi lifted its Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) target price to $151 from $90 per share in a note Friday, maintaining a Neutral rating on the stock.

Meanwhile, overnight BTC touched a new higher high at $49,000 but experienced a quick drop to $46,000, influenced by higher-than-expected CPI data.

A transaction involving nearly $15 billion worth of XRP from an unknown wallet to the Bitfinex exchange as part of a “partial payments exploit” has failed.

In a noteworthy move within the cryptocurrency landscape, Ripple’s XRP has made a triumphant return to the Grayscale Digital Large Cap Fund (GDLC) after a hiatus of three years. In December 2023, Ripple (XRP), executed a significant transaction involving its XRP tokens. The company spent 240 million XRP, valued at approximately $148.80 million, strategically managing its escrowed reserves. This move left 96.34 million XRP in Ripple's principal spending wallet, marked «Ripple (1)», with an estimated value of $59.73 million, aimed at stabilizing the XRP market.

BNB, XRP, Dogecoin, Cardano, Avalanche, Toncoin and Tron soared up to 15%. Crypto markets rallied in anticipation of imminent approvals by the US SEC regarding spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Crypto markets surged over 6% overnight reacting to the US SEC Chairman’s tweet about crypto investing, Vikram Subburaj, CEO, of Giottus Crypto Platform said, attributing the development to the uptick in major cryptos. Bitcoin briefly breached $47,000 for the first time since April 2022 and is looking set for a push towards $50,000 if spot ETF approvals come in this week, he opined. In his view, BTC dominance has increased to 54.5% indicating strong performance of the top crypto asset lately. Any euphoric rally from here could lead to a correction later, he warned investors as he advised them to remain cautious of the market volatility over the next 7 days. The crypto market's total market capitalisation has crossed the $1.8 trillion mark according to Coinswitch data which said that the crypto fear and greed index remains highly positive, jumping by 6 points as compared to Monday.

The XRP price has risen by 2% in the past 24 hours, hitting $0.5669 on a day when the wider cryptocurrency market has gained by 5%.

Bitcoin ETF application. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Dogecoin were trading in the green, while BNB, XRP, Cardano, Tron, and Internet Computer were in the red. At 11:58 a.m., bluechip crypto tokens BTC was trading 1.2% higher at $43,660, while Ethereum was up 0.34% at $2,245. Whereas, altcoins, such as Internet Computer and Toncoin, fell 7.4% and 2.7%, respectively. «In the last 24 hours, Bitcoin rallied to $44,000 following reports on Thursday about the SEC's final comments to issuers, hinting at possible approval for Bitcoin spot ETF applications. This recovery reversed Wednesday's crash, restoring optimism among market participants,» said Edul Patel, CEO of Mudrex. «Currently, BTC is consolidating at $43,500, and the upcoming SEC decision could add significance to Bitcoin's price movement. A successful establishment of $43,900 as support and a close above it may signal an uptrend,» Edul added.

Renowned crypto lawyer John Deaton has volunteered to testify at a congressional hearing on cryptocurrencies scheduled for January 10.

The XRP price has sunk by 9% in the past 24 hours, falling below the all-important $0.60 support level after a bad day for the cryptocurrency market yesterday.

Meanwhile, the second largest crypto, Ethereum rose 4.9% to $2,386. «Bitcoin started the new year by surpassing the US$45,000 level, driven by market expectations for the approval of Bitcoin spot ETFs. A sustained bullish momentum could propel BTC to US$46,300 and subsequently US$47,600; however, if not, the support level is pegged at US$43,700,» said Edul Patel, CEO of Mudrex. Investor focus has been squarely on whether the US securities regulator will soon approve a spot Bitcoin ETF, which would open up the Bitcoin market to millions of investors.

At 11:17 a.m., BTC was trading 0.07% lower at $45,237, while Ethereum was down 0.12% at $2,377. «BTC saw its highest level in 21 months as Bitcoin started the new year by breaking out of its consolidation zone and moving past the resistance at 45k USD as the market potential sees a Bitcoin ETF approval in the first week of January,» said Coinswitch markets desk. Edul Patel, CEO of Mudrex, said, «BTC's resistance is now identified at the US$46,100 level, while support holds steady at US$44,800. In tandem, Ethereum mirrors Bitcoin's trajectory, presently trading at US$2,300. To sustain momentum, Ethereum must breach the US$2,500 barrier for further gains.»

In the volatile world of cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin recently experienced a sharp decline, losing over 7% in just 24 hours, and dragging other major cryptocurrencies down with it. Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Cardano, and Avalanche all suffered significant losses following Bitcoin’s drop to below $42,000.

Injective (2,923%), Tellor Tributes (2200%), Kaspa (2,198%), Render (1,051%), and Marinade staked SOL (1,038%) were among the other top 100 cryptocurrencies, according to data available on CoinGecko. On the other hand, EOS, TrueUSD, Dai, and Tether remained the top losers in 2023.
