Bitcoin (BTC) is witnessing a tough battle between buyers and sellers near the $25,000 mark. A minor cause of worry for the bulls is that even the news of BlackRock having filed an application for a Bitcoin spot exchange-traded fund could not boost prices higher. This suggests that investors remain cautious due to the regulatory overhang.

The Hinman documents were finally unsealed and made publicly available on June 12 after a lengthy back and forth between Ripple and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), but what exactly do they reveal?

BTC volume stood at approximately $13.02 billion, rising 12.48% in the last 24 hours. «The crypto market remained upbeat as a crypto community is anticipating a breather from continuous rate hikes in today’s FOMC meeting. The crypto market may react sharply to the outcome of the FOMC meeting today as any relaxation in monetary policies will prove beneficial for the financial markets in the long term,» Shivam Thakral, CEO of BuyUcoin, said. The global cryptocurrency market cap was trading lower around $1.06 trillion, falling 0.49% in the last 24 hours.

The final quarter of 2020 saw the launch of a precedent-setting lawsuit by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission against Ripple Labs, CEO Bradley Garlinghouse and co-founder Christian A. Larsen. The allegation: raising north of $1 billion in 2013 through the unregistered sale of a purported security, XRP (XRP).

Banco de la República, in conjunction with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies, will pilot the Ripple platform through the rest of the year. Developed to address multiple use cases including wholesale and retail CBDCs on a private ledger or issuing a stablecoin, the Ripple platform is powered by the XRP Ledger, an energy-efficient and open-source blockchain.

cryptocurrency markets were trading in the red on Thursday after the US Federal Reserve left rates unchanged as anticipated but hinted at the possibility of more hikes later this year. Bitcoin (BTC) fell 3.7% to $24,918, whereas Ethereum (ETH) was below the $1,650 level. BTC volume stood at approximately $15.28 billion, rising 17.54% in the last 24 hours. «Bitcoin experienced a drop to $24,990, marking its first time hitting this level since March. This decline came in the midst of a turbulent week, triggered by a hawkish announcement from the Federal Reserve,» Edul Patel, Co-founder and CEO at Mudrex, said. Other top crypto tokens were also trading lower. XRP and Litecoin fell by over 6%. Meanwhile, BNB, Dogecoin, Polygon and Polkadot traded with cuts.

Banco de la República, Colombia’s central bank, is partnering with Peersyst and Ripple to pilot blockchain technology on the XRP ledger.

Bitcoin (BTC) surged 0.91% to $26,100, whereas Ethereum (ETH) was above the $1,750 level. BTC volume stood at approximately $11.59 billion, rising 0.26% in the last 24 hours. “Most cryptocurrencies rose in the past 24 hours ahead of the release of CPI data for May which is scheduled for today,” Edul Patel, Co-founder and CEO at Mudrex, said. «Bitcoin traded at the US$26,000 level over the weekend following the low at US$25,675. BTC sees bulls attempt to break the resistance of US$26,300 level. However, currently the market sentiment remains largely bearish,» Edul added.

The United States equities markets rose after the Consumer Price Index print on June 13 came in below expectations, but Bitcoin and the altcoins failed to recover. This suggests that cryptocurrency traders are focused on crypto-specific issues and are not buying on favorable macroeconomic news. 

Ripple’s chief legal officer Stuart Alderoty has called for an investigation into the motivations that led to former SEC official William Hinman delivering his now-infamous speech in 2018.

Newly released documents showing edits that were made to a 2018 speech given by former director of the Security and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) corporate finance division Bill Hinman suggest the editors were concerned his statement might undermine the idea that Ether (ETH) is a security. 

With just one day until the Hinman documents are due to be unsealed, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse suggests the documents will be “well worth the wait."

The University of Toronto plans to launch an independent XRP Ledger validator, Ripple announced June 12 as the university will become part of Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). The partnership will support blockchain and crypto technology research at the university.

After the tough sell-off seen in the past week, the cryptocurrency markets will be looking for some support from the macroeconomic data this week. The all-important United States Consumer Price Index report on June 13 will be followed up by the Federal Reserve’s policy decision on June 14. 

The crypto market took a huge hit last week, largely due to the lawsuits that the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed against crypto giants Binance and Coinbase. This caused the market to lose billions in market cap, and it’s unclear how the events will unfold and what further impact they will have. Most coins are in the red, with a select few being only slightly affected.
