Gold Prices Today: Gold prices extended gains on Wednesday, March 27, as investors awaited US inflation data that will throw further light on the US Federal Reserve's policy path after the central bank kept interest rates unchanged for the fifth straight meeting this month. According to commodity market experts, gold prices have retraced from recent highs due to the profit-booking. The yellow metal still possesses steam and may soon touch record-high levels soon as the US Fed rate cuts are expected to inject further momentum in prices.

Gold rate today: On account of three interest rate cuts in 2024 by the US Federal Reserve, gold price on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) touched a new high of ₹66,943 per 10 gm last week. However, profit-boking soon triggered and the yellow metal price retraced more than ₹1,000 per gm and ended at ₹65,870 level on Friday. After ending below the ₹66,000 mark, the MCX gold rate logged a 5.30 percent rise in MTD time whereas spot gold price ascended to the tune of 6 percent in the international market.

Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi has said that public sector banks have been asked to check mis-selling of insurance products and ensure protection of account holders' interest. Banks have been sensitised on the matter, as the Department of Financial Services (DFS) regularly gets complaints that fraudulent and unethical practices are being adopted by banks and life insurance companies for procuring policies from the bank customers, he told PTI in an interview. «Banks have been asked to give utmost importance to the interest of account holders,» he said. There have been instances where life insurance policies were sold to customers aged above 75 years in tier-II and III cities.

Gold futures contract on MCX for April 2024 expiry ended at ₹65,545 per 10 gm level on Friday last week, logging more than ₹800 dip against the new peak.
