Google is reportedly laying off hundreds of employees from its recruiting team globally. However, Google has not given any exact number of people who have been asked to go.
The tech giant said in a statement that the «volume of requests for our recruiters has gone down».
“In order to continue our important work to ensure we operate efficiently, we’ve made the hard decision to reduce the size of our recruiting team,” a Google spokesperson was quoted as saying. Meanwhile, Brian Ong, Google's recruiting vice president, communicated this decision to employees in a video meeting, stating that it was a difficult decision and not something anyone wanted to discuss again this year.
He added that impacted employees would start receiving emails about the job cuts.
“It’s not something that was an easy decision to make, and it definitely isn’t a conversation any of us wanted to have again this year,” Ong reportedly told employees in a video meeting.
“Given the base of hiring that we’ve received the next several quarters, it’s the right thing to do overall,” he added.
In January, Google had announced that it plans to cut 12,000 jobs, affecting approximately 6 per cent of its full-time workforce, including employees in the recruiting organization. Google India has already reportedly terminated over 400 employees as part of these layoffs.
Google is on a cost-cutting spree.
