India is expected to see steady revenue growth for the next three years, after recent quarterly declines following extraordinary growth in 2023 driven by 5G roll outs, aaid Andres Vicente, Senior Vice President, Market Area South East Asia, Oceania & India, Ericsson. Speaking to ET’s Subhrojit Mallick and Romit Guha, Vicente also backed the view of Indian telcos of a level playing field with satcom companies. Edited excerpts:
Opportunities in India…
Now that the (5G) infrastructure has been built, we need the adoption of this new infrastructure.
There are a lot of possibilities. India is catching up fast in areas like Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). This is how the US has monetized 5G.
India is coming into this space quickly, and it represents a massive opportunity because mobile broadband is faster to deploy than fiber and offers similar speed and bandwidth. Another opportunity is in the enterprise space. India can play a leading role in this area, but it needs to speed up the adoption of use cases.
Enterprises will require very efficient, productive, and innovative systems, and slicing will be a key part of that. Then last but not least, is to bring the application development community into the 5G space. Lastly, to truly unlock the monetization potential, we need to bring the application developer community into the 5G space.
