Jammu and Kashmir police Rashmi Ranjan Swain on Saturday said the number of local militants active in the union territory is all time low at 31 but the war is not just against the gun wielding militants but also against those who endorse and glorify their narrative.
The J&K police chief, while addressing the end of year press conference in Jammu presented a detailed outlook of the work police has done over the past 12 months across the UT. He said that the region is currently passing through a historic and important phase witnessing a significant socio-political and economic change.
“We have conducted 48 successful anti-terrorist operations in which 76 terrorists including 55 foreigners have been neutralised. It is for the first time more foreign terrorists are active here.
Our fight ahead is more about foreign intruders,” said Swain. He informed that an all-time low number of local militants with the figure of 31 are active across J&K including 27 in Kashmir Valley and four in Kishtwar area of Jammu division.
“Police have arrested 291 terrorist associates who allegedly provide logistics, shelter, transportation and identify targets for the militants,” he said. The police have busted 18 hideouts and 89 militant modules across J&K claiming that in almost 99 percent cases the handler of the module was a Pakistani who formed and ran it through encrypted messaging application and people in a module didn't even know each other.
“Philosophy of security management is that war is not just against those wielding guns but also against the ideology of those who endorse, legitimise and glorify it, directly or indirectly, implicitly or explicitly, covertly or overtly.
