Mufasa is depicted very young in the revealed trailer of Mufasa: The Lion King which suggests that Mufasa's timeline likely begins around five to eight years before The Lion King's franchise. According to ScreenRant, it is plausible that Mufasa begins his journey in the upcoming film as a cub.
