Lok Sabha polls, Trinamool Congress will focus on Lok Sabha seats, where it got defeated in the last Lok Sabha polls, in a bid to strengthen its organisational network. The party also aims to organise conventions with the active leadership of the youth wing of the party and also involve young voters, people in the know said.
The party intends to start its programme from Siliguri in North Bengal and initially select seven Lok Sabha seats, including West Bardhaman, where Trinamool Congress did not perform well, party sources said.
Meanwhile, ahead of Lok Sabha polls, Trinamool National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee is also likely to lead a major campaign, «Nabo Jowar» (New Wave Part II), after the Durga Puja festive season, following the success of a two-month-long campaign ahead of Panchayat polls, which helped Trinamool strengthen its position. Ahead of the Panchayat, Trinamool Congress introduced a people's connect programme today, named «Trinamool-e Nabo Jowar” (the new wave in Trinamool).
A similar programme is likely to be spearheaded by Baneerjee ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, sources informed. The programme had brought huge success in panchayat polls, according to Trinamool's leadership.
In April this year, the Trinamool Congress introduced a secret ballot for collecting the names of candidates to understand people's choices from every district, booth, and panchayat level in a bid to cleanse the system and get rid of corruption in the panchayat system.
