A Conservative MP has defected to the Labour party just as Boris Johnson is set to once again face British MPs in parliament to respond to questions about "partygate", a scandal that has threatened the prime minister's leadership.
Some have called for Johnson to resign over the revelations that his office held work parties while the UK was under strict COVID-19 restrictions over the past two years.
Johnson called on Wednesday once again for British MPs to wait for an independent inquiry from a civil servant whose report is expected at the end of the month.
Johnson apologised last week for attending a party held at Downing Street during the first coronavirus lockdown, stating that he thought it was a "work event".
In an interview with Sky News on Tuesday, Johnson said that no one had told him that the work event was "against the rules".
It's influenced some members of his own party to consider him a liability, with the Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross saying that Johnson’s position “is no longer tenable”.
Just ahead of the Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday, Tory MP Christian Wakeford defected to the Labour party.
