Brendan Carr will take over as the permanent Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Carr, currently the senior Republican commissioner at the agency, was first nominated to the FCC by Trump in 2017 and unanimously confirmed by the Senate. His term extends through 2029.
In his statement, Trump praised Carr’s contributions, stating: “His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now be designating him as permanent Chairman.”
Carr has «fought against the regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans' Freedoms» and will «end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America's Job Creators and Innovators, and ensure that the FCC delivers for rural America,» Trump said in the statement.
Brendan Carr, 45, is a telecommunications attorney with a decade-long association with the FCC. A graduate of the Catholic University of America’s law school, he began his FCC career in 2012 as a legal advisor and later became general counsel in 2017.
During his tenure, Carr worked closely with former FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, supporting significant policy shifts, including the rollback of net neutrality regulations. These changes removed internet service providers from the utility-style regulatory framework, a move later reversed under a Democratic-led FCC.
