Galatasaray fightback puts Man Utd on brink of Champions League exit
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insisted his side are going in the right direction despite a 3-3 draw at Galatasaray on Wednesday that leaves the Red Devils on the brink of Champions League elimination. United twice let a two-goal lead slip in Istanbul as costly errors from goalkeeper Andre Onana and poor finishing left them still bottom of Group A. Ten Hag's side need to beat Bayern Munich in their final match at Old Trafford to have any chance of qualifying. But even victory over the German champions will not be enough if Galatasaray beat FC Copenhagen in two weeks' time or the Danish champions take at least four points from their final two matches. «We are going in the right direction so I know we will be successful in the long-term but if you want to stay in the Champions League you need to win these games,» said Ten Hag. «I was pleased with how we played but at the same time I have to criticise the team because the defending is not good enough.

No new issue in agri till permanent solution on public stockholding: India at a WTO meet
WTO grouping with a major interest in farm trade that it will not discuss any new issue in the agriculture segment like imposition of export restrictions before a permanent solution is found with regard to public stockholding of food grains, an official said. This position was cleared during a mini-ministerial virtual meeting of about 28 WTO (World Trade Organisation) member countries on agriculture issues on November 28. In the meeting, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal put forward New Delhi's approach to the issue saying that public procurement and stockholding of food grains serve the twin objectives of food security and income support to marginal farmers.

Migration, mega-fines and Barbie: records set in 2023
AFP looks at 10 standout numbers: The number of people around the world displaced by conflict or humanitarian crises was already at a record high before the Israel-Gaza war began on October 7, adding to the misery. By the end of September, 114 million people had been driven from their homes by wars in Ukraine, Sudan, Myanmar and the Democratic Republic of Congo and a humanitarian crisis in Taliban-run Afghanistan, among other factors, according to UN refugee agency the UNHCR. They have since been joined by at least 1.7 million Gazans. One heat record after another tumbled in 2023, which is on course to be the hottest year on record, according to the European Union's climate monitor Copernicus. The northern hemisphere had its hottest summer ever and temperature records were also smashed in the southern winter, with the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires experiencing its warmest August 1 on record at 30 degrees Celsius. Defending champions South Africa won a nail-biting final 12-11 against New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup, to claim a record fourth title and seal the growing role of rugby — once the sport of the white minority under apartheid — as a unifying force in multiracial South Africa. «People who are not from South Africa don't understand what it means for our country. It is not just about the game.
