Cricket: Why India and Pakistan will play Asia Cup match in neutral venue? Know venue, inaugural match, final
India and Pakistan will play the Asia Cup matches at the neutral venue of Kandy in Sri Lanka. The decision was taken after the cricket regulators of the two sides failed to reach a compromise on the issue. The two neighbors have bitter relations and they have fought a few wars. The political and diplomatic ties between them worsened after 2013. Pakistan and Sri Lanka are the co-hosts of the tournament that will be held from July 30 to August 17. The final match will be held in Sri Lanka. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal will be the other contenders in the six-team 50-over competition. Nepal, India, and Pakistan have been put in group A. Two teams from each group of three teams will advance to the Super Four stage to decide the teams that will play the final. The first Super Four match will be held in the Pakistani city of Lahore before it moves to the Sri Lankan city of Colombo. But the groups are made in such a way that India will not have to play in Lahore. The only group match between India and Pakistan will be played in Kandy on September 2. The inaugural match of the Asia Cup cricket will be held on August 30 in the Pakistani city of Multan between Nepal and Pakistan. Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka on August 31 in Kandy whereas Afghanistan will take on Bangladesh on August 3 in Lahore. Nepal will meet India in Kandy on September 4 and Afghanistan will take on Sri Lanka on September 5 in Lahore.
