Gautam Gambhir can be misleading at times but when it comes to crunch times, he has always delivered
If that is actually true, Gautam Gambhir should be well on the way to being anointed, sorry appointed, India’s next coach. The former little left-hand bat has all the bases covered, on and off the field. As a tigerish batsman who overcame a lack of obvious flair and the kind of talent that makes fans go “wow” Gambhir fought for every run. He worked the ball across his pad to leg, cleared his front foot and crunched past midoff, rocked back to swivel and pull off his hips and cut with a view to keeping the ball on the ground, despite being what you might politely call a shortie. Gambhir was a serious player, no pun intended. He was not a great friend of team-mates in the dressing-room, he was not the life of the party and he sure as hell did not smile unless he absolutely had to.

Akshata Murty gets proactive on UK PM Rishi Sunak's campaign trail
London: Akshata Murty, Britain's Indian First Lady, has begun getting proactive as her husband hit the campaign trail in a tough race ahead for the governing Conservatives, starting with a supportive message to say she's with him «every step of the way» hours after a rain-soaked Rishi Sunak announced July 4 as the general election date on the steps of 10 Downing Street. The 44-year-old businesswoman has used her Instagram handle to post campaign messages in favour of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who is hoping to prove all the pre-election surveys forecasting a drubbing for the Tories wrong. The couple, who met while studying at Stanford University in the US and are among the richest incumbents of Downing Street in history in large part down to Murty's Infosys shares worth millions of pounds, are expected to work as a team through the course of the just over five-week-long campaign.

Dollar firm ahead of global inflation data
dollar held steady on Monday, but was set for its first monthly loss this year, as investors were focused on U.S., European and Japanese inflation data to guide the global interest rate outlook. Foreign exchange trade has been dominated by the hunt for «carry» in recent months, punishing low-yield currencies and supporting the dollar, while U.S. data has blown hot and cold and dented policymakers' confidence on the rates outlook.
