Premier League: Red Devils could dent Citizen’s hopes of winning fourth successive title
Manchester United have the opportunity to knock Manchester City off their perch when they travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday even if they will not be the main beneficiaries of a surprise Premier League win. United’s new minority owner Jim Ratcliffe laid out his plans to return the 20-time English champions to the summit when he completed his acquisition of 27% of the club’s shares this month, including re-establishing the pecking order in the city. With 15 points separating secondplaced City to sixth-placed United, that ambition might take a while to come to fruition.

Prostate cancer unveiled: AI uncovers new subtypes, paves way for tailored treatments
artificial intelligence (AI) to reveal a new form of aggressive prostate cancer which they said could help thousands of lives by revolutionising how the disease is diagnosed and treated in the future. The study, published in the journal Cell Genomics, reveals that prostate cancer, which affects one in eight men in their lifetime, includes two different subtypes termed evotypes. The findings, led by researchers at the University of Oxford, and the University of Manchester, UK, could help provide tailored treatments to each individual patient according to a genetic test which will also be delivered using AI, they said. «Our research demonstrates that prostate tumours evolve along multiple pathways, leading to two distinct disease types,» said lead researcher Dan Woodcock, from the University of Oxford.

Additional Rs 25K crore debt won't cause much stress on Vodafone Idea: Company
Vodafone Idea's plans to raise an additional Rs 25,000 crore via the debt route won't cause any financial stress as the telco has sharply cut bank exposure — by almost Rs 35,000 crore — in the past two-and-a-half years and improved operational performance, top company sources told ET. The telecom JV of UK's Vodafone Group and India's Aditya Birla Group (ABG), in fact, is counting on the targeted funding primarily to plug its 4G coverage gaps and rein in customer losses to be able to compete more effectively with bigger rivals, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel in its priority markets. The Rs 25,000 crore planned debt funding is in addition to the Rs 20,000 crore that Vi plans to raise via equity and/or equity-linked instruments by the June quarter of FY25.

There’s also a positive side of GenAI that can strengthen democracy
The tech narrative in the last two years has been dominated by artificial intelligence (AI) and the excitement and disruption generated by it. However, the narrative started to sour a little in the latter half of 2023, as ethical issues got thrown up—like copyright, bias, privacy and deepfakes. Now, with elections looming across most of the democratic world, 2024 promises to be the year when AI will experience its first major ethical test—whether it helps democracy or subverts it.
