Europe is guzzling diesel from India, a key buyer of Russian oil
Russian crude. The region’s imports of diesel from India, one of the biggest buyers of Russian crude, are on course to soar to 305,000 barrels a day, the most since at least January 2017, data from market-intelligence firm Kpler show. While it’s not possible to say with certainty that the molecules originated in Russia — India also processes oil from elsewhere — Moscow’s deliveries have given Indian refineries the ability to produce abundant diesel and boost exports.

Europe binges on Indian diesel as supplies from US, Saudi dip
While it’s not possible to say with certainty that the molecules originated in Russia — India also processes oil from elsewhere — Moscow’s deliveries have given Indian refineries an ability to produce abundant diesel and boost exports. Arrivals into Europe in November include a rare shipment from Mumbai-based Nayara Energy Ltd., which imported almost 60% of its crude from Russia this year, according to Kpler. Reliance Industries Ltd., Europe’s top supplier of Indian diesel, draws more than third of its crude from Russia, the figures show. The surge in diesel imports from India also illustrates a fundamental shift in oil trading in the wake of the Kremlin’s war in Ukraine. A year ago, Russia was Europe’s top supplier of diesel, a fuel vital to the industrial and transport sectors. The European Union banned most seaborne imports of Russian crude in December and oil products in February.

Faster security checks at Indian airports soon. How it works
Currently, passengers have to remove items such as electronic items and liquid from hand luggage and put them on trays for security checks. Once implemented, the 3D CTX machines will reduce the time taken for security checks at airports. Passengers wont need to take out electronic devices like laptops or chargers and liquids and put them on trays at security checkpoints. Airports will also have to reconfigure the layouts at airports as CTX machines are larger than the 2D X-ray scanners in use currently. Besides passenger convenience, CTX machines will also improve detection of prohibited items. London City Airport in April this year, according to a BBC report, allowed electronics to be kept in hand luggage at security after installation of the CTX machines. The UK government has set a June 2024 deadline for most UK airports to install the machines. “CTX will not only improve passenger experience at airports by speeding up PESC process, but also improve detection of prohibited items and make security more robust. This will enhance the capability of detecting non-metallic threat objects like liquid, gel or plastic contraband,” TOI had reported citing sources .
