Suzuki sees India’s automobile market growing fivefold by 2047
battery electric vehicles, Suzuki Motor Corp. Executive Vice President Kenichi Ayukawa said. First, the goal is for Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the Japanese carmaker’s subsidiary, to grab 50% market share by 2030, from around 40% for the fiscal year through March. “We’re confident that the Indian market will expand in the mid to long term,” Ayukawa said in an interview. The emergence of India as an economic powerhouse and its expanding middle class present a clear opportunity for the Hamamatsu-based manufacturer, which has been active in the South Asian nation since 1983 and has found success as the top-selling automaker with models such as Swift and Brezza. In order to keep its lead, Suzuki plans to introduce its first-ever EV in India, as well as in Europe, next year after exhibiting its mass production model at the upcoming auto expo in India in January, according to Ayukawa.

Charting the global economy: UK services inflation tops forecast
inflation in its services sector last month, retail sales weakened and the budget deficit exceeded estimates — highlighting a host of challenges for UK policymakers. Money markets see about a 40% chance that the Bank of England will lower interest rates next month, as officials balance signs of a weakening labor market with stubborn price pressures. The European Central Bank, meanwhile, left interest rates unchanged after last month’s landmark cut. The ECB is weighing whether euro-zone inflation is cooling sufficiently to allow further monetary loosening.

US-led old order weakens under weight of CRIK's influence
China's challenge to American primacy, it's believed, will be the defining contest of the century. While this may be true, a far more dangerous contest is afoot between what seems to be a crumbling old order (US-led West) and a rivalrous new Axis that is struggling to be born — China-Russia-Iran-North Korea (CRIK). Award winning journalist John Pilger tells us that Mao in 1944 had made an appeal to Washington, «China must industrialise, this can only be done by Free Enterprise. Chinese and American interests fit together, economically and politically. We cannot risk crossing America; we cannot risk any conflict». He received no reply. Mao's successors decided to join the system and beat the US at its own game — capitalism & innovation — and are now with its bete noire Russia challenging the American-led order. Iran and North Korea have strengthened this New Axis. The evolving powerplay has created the precise construct that Henry Kissinger had once warned: a Bear-Dragon tandem that is in delightful synchrony. The New Axis has not only performed well in the Ukrainian and West Asian theatres of war, but is also looking towards the Global South (125 countries, 80% of the global population, 40% of global GDP) as its wider field of play.

India surpassed its colonial rulers in 75 years: Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday said in the seven decades of independence, India left behind its former colonial rulers who had «looted» the country for more than two centuries. Speaking at the second regional industry conclave here, he appealed industrialists to invest in Madhya Pradesh, assuring them of ample water and electricity supply. «We have regained our lost glory by leaving behind in 70 to 75 years those who looted us for 250 years....We are back on track. India is the fifth largest economy now,» he said, apparently referring to India replacing the United Kingdom in the pecking order of global economic powerhouses in the fifth spot after the US, China, Germany and Japan.

Budget 2024: Mutual fund industry urges tax parity for debt MFs held for 3 or more years
The mutual fund industry is demanding capital gains tax on the units of debt mutual funds held for more than 3 years to be taxed at 10% without indexation, as applicable in respect of Long Term Capital Gains Tax (LTCG) from debentures. The demand has been raised by industry body Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi), which in its proposal sent to the Ministry of Finance has said that it was «logical» to do so as this could encourage retail investor participation in bond markets. «We request for an amendment to Finance Act, 2023 and consider the mutual fund units as securities, with long-term capital tax rate thereon should be according to / in line with the capital gains tax on bonds, debentures, SDL and G-secs etc,» the Amfi budget proposal document said.

Budget 2024: With China's real estate reforms in place, is it time for India to up the ante too in Budget?
Union Budget 2024: India's ambitious goal of becoming a developed country by 2047 closely aligns with the growth of its real estate sector. Thanks to its impressive economic surge in recent times, supported by the real estate sector's contributions to urban development, it is anticipated that by 2030, 40% of India's population will reside in urban areas. While other growth indicators are on the rise, India’s real estate industry will play a crucial role in achieving the country's sustainable development goals, given that it accounts for 8% of its GDP. Looking ahead, real estate could serve as the cornerstone of a resilient economy, around which all other factors would revolve.
