Fighting Election President Actor students singer Bihari versus Bihari: A big Bihar battle is brewing in Delhi
Delhi is witnessing a battle between two prominent Biharis. The contest in the Northeast Delhi constituency is the most watched in Delhi for its two main contenders. The Congress has fielded former president of JNU Students' Union, Kanhaiya Kumar, who became known for the controversy over raising of anti-national slogans on the JNU campus in 2016. He is challenging a formidable incumbent, BJP's Manoj Tiwari, a famous Bhojpuri singer and actor who is known for his hugely popular song 'Rinkiya ke papa'. Tiwari won from the Northeast Delhi constituency in 2014 as well as 2019. His vote share in 2014 was 45% which grew in 2019 to 54%. Kumar and Tiwari are locking horns in a constituency with a sizable population from Poorvanchal. No laughing matter for 'Rinkiya ke papa'? Tiwari's political weight can be gauged from the fact that he is the only sitting MP who has been retained in Delhi. The BJP has replaced candidates in all other six constituencies in Delhi. His vote share grew in 2019 when he defeated former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit with a margin of more than 3.5 lakh votes.
