Can 33% margin become the new normal for Indian Hotels? Puneet Chhatwal answers
Puneet Chhatwal, MD & CEO, IHCL, says “the lasting impact of the G20 and the B20 that happened recently is far higher than just a few days of completely sold-out rooms. Of course, it helps, because that makes September a very extraordinary month, so that definitely is a positive tailwind for all of us and the good thing. Chhatwal further says: “But if we take a step back and do not look at only these one-off events, what we are witnessing in the last 16-18 months is that demand is outpacing supply. Supply is going to remain constrained. So, if the demand continues to outpace supply, the occupancy levels will be higher along with out ability to charge, which means the average rates will keep increasing.”Let us talk about the iconic hospitality that Taj is extending to thousands of dignitaries who have come to India to attend the G20 summit. The great Indian diplomacy: G20 unanimously adopts Delhi Declaration
G20 adopted the New Delhi Declaration unanimously on Saturday, calling for coordinated steps to support the world economy that faces an uncertain outlook, along with expeditious and effective redressal of the debt vulnerabilities of low and middle-income countries. The declaration marked a significant diplomatic success for India's presidency in the face of divisions that had cropped up, especially over the Ukraine war. In the 83-paragraph declaration, the India-led G20 proposed scaling up inclusive action against climate change with a green development pact and sustainable development goals, admitted the African Union in the group, put crypto-asset regulation on the global agenda, and committed to reforming multilateral development banks (MDBs). There were widespread fears the summit may end without a declaration due to divergence over the Ukraine-Russia conflict that shadowed all ministerial meetings before the Leaders' Summit. «History has been created with the adoption of the New Delhi Leaders' Declaration,» said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media site X.

India used Sherpa, ministerial tracks to reach consensus on Delhi Declaration
Ukraine-Russia war. A consensus that had seemed elusive was achieved following hard bargaining and intense discussions among all G20 negotiating teams amid key meetings, ET has learnt. The need for consensus on the New Delhi Declaration that was adopted on Saturday had also figured in the meeting between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the Capital on Friday night. While India was in constant touch with Russia over the issue, external affairs minister S Jaishankar's meeting with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Jakarta played an important role, ET has learnt. Over Friday and early Saturday, the Prime Minister held critical talks on the issue with visiting leaders.
