Will incorporate rules to check vulgar content on social media, OTT platforms: Centre tells Delhi HC
social media platforms and intermediaries will incorporate necessary rules and regulations to ensure the space occupied by them is free from vulgar language and profanities. The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), in an affidavit showing compliance of the high court's earlier directions, said it has taken note of the concerns expressed by the high court in its earlier orders. The high court had earlier said framing rules and guidelines to regulate the content on social media and OTT platforms need urgent attention. It had underlined the need for taking seriously the use of vulgar language in public domain and on social media platforms which are open to children of tender age. «It is stated that it is a policy decision and having taken note of the concerns of this court expressed through its directions, the concerned Ministry (MeitY), while undertaking its regular exercise of policy making, will incorporate rules/regulations to regulate the social media platforms, intermediaries for making it safer from the use of vulgar language including profanity, bad words, etc., as per the judgment of this court,» Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma said in an order on August 17. Considering the submission of the ministry, the high court disposed of the matter, saying it is a sufficient compliance of its previous orders. «This court takes note of the fact that it is a policy decision which is to be undertaken by the Ministry and the legislature, it is sufficient compliance of the order of this court.

TMC, Congress hopeful of getting framework for united fight in next INDIA meet
West Bengal, the constituents of the opposition bloc INDIA, including TMC and Congress, are optimistic about formulating a draft proposal in the upcoming Mumbai meet to collectively combat the BJP, despite existing political contradictions within the coalition in various states. The third gathering of the opposition alliance, the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), is set to take place in Mumbai on August 31 and September 1. In the current scenario, three parties in West Bengal — TMC, CPI(M), and Congress — acknowledge that without a framework, any attempt at electoral adjustments would be challenging, accentuated by the contrast between TMC's inclination for a 1:1 contest against the BJP, and the contrary stance of the current Left-Congress alliance in the state. «We are hopeful that some framework to put up a united fight not just in West Bengal but also in states where there are contradictions would take shape in the Mumbai meet.

Onion merchants extend help to farmers after imposition of 40% export levy
Onion merchants from Delhi's Azadpur mandi have come forward to help the farmers who are worried about the falling onion prices following the government's decision to put a 40 percent duty on the export of onions.
