Delhi civic body drops street dog ‘removal, sterilisation’ plan ahead of G20 summit
G20 Summit, scheduled to be held in the national summit. The move comes after MCD had announced plans, only to face opposition from Delhi residents and animal rights activists. Earlier, the Delhi Municipal Corporation has announced that all street dogs will be picked up from the vicinity of the boutique hotels and popular tourist spots in Delhi, sterilized and kept at the NGOs until the summit was over.

Credit facilities extended to Videocon caused loss of over Rs 1,000 crore to ICICI Bank: Charge sheet in Kochhar case
ICICI Bank to the Videocon group turned into non-performing assets (NPAs) of more than Rs 1,000 crore, the CBI has claimed in the charge sheet filed against the bank's former CEO Chanda Kochhar, her husband Deepak Kochhar and Videocon founder Venugopal Dhoot. The over 10,000 pages-long charge sheet was filed recently before a special court for the Central Bureau of Investigation cases here. The Kochhars and Dhoot are now out on bail. After Chanda Kochhar became MD & CEO of ICICI Bank, from May 1, 2009, six 'Rupee Term Loans' (RTLs) were sanctioned to Videocon Group. Between June 2009 to October 2011, RTLs of a total of Rs 1,875 crore were sanctioned to the group by the bank, the charge sheet said. Chanda Kochhar was chairperson of the two-member Committee of Directors which sanctioned RTL of Rs 300 crore in August 2009 to Videocon International Electronics Limited (VIEL). Further, she was a member of the committee of senior managers (recommending committee) as well as credit committee (sanctioning committee) for sanctioning RTL of Rs 750 crore to Videocon Industries Limited (VIL) in October 2011, the CBI charge sheet said. She was a member of the committees which sanctioned various loan limits to Videocon Group even after 2012, it added.

Delhi Services Bill for its consideration and passage in Rajya Sabha on Monday, sources said. The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 to replace the ordinance on transfers and postings of senior officers in the Delhi government was passed by Lok Sabha on Thursday amid a walkout by the opposition parties. «The Delhi services bill will come up in Rajya Sabha on Monday. Voting for the passage of the bill will be held the same day in the evening after the conclusion of a discussion on the bill,» a source said. Senior Congress leader and Supreme Court lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi is likely to initiate the debate from the opposition side, the sources said. Singhvi had represented the Delhi government in the Supreme Court in the matter related to control of administrative services.

Roseate Hotels & Resorts, owned by Bird Group, plans to add two hotels annually through management agreements while pursuing the development of luxury boutique properties in India and abroad, Kush Kapoor, CEO of the company, told ET. The company intends to include coworking centers at hotels in metro cities, while its properties in holiday destinations will be developed as resorts. «We are receiving organic queries from owners willing to offer their properties, and simultaneously, some owners with beautiful locations are interested in entrusting their properties to us. We are now exploring management options alongside our existing hotels,» Kapoor said. The company has recently acquired 2.6 acres of land near the upcoming Noida airport for the development of a 250-room project that will include a spacious convention center. «If everything goes well, and we get all our approvals in time, we should be able to start construction soon on the Noida hotel. We are also looking at expanding the Rishikesh resort as well,» Kapoor said.

Switzerland rejected nearly 14,000 Indian visa applications in 2022
Switzerland rejected 13.2 per cent of all visa applications filed by Indian nationals in 2022, Schengen Statics showed. The same data also showed that 106,025 applications filed by Indians received a positive response. Indians are listed as the 30th nationality in the list of those with rejection rates. Nationalities whose visa applications were rejected the most include Pakistani, Ghanaian, and Congolese nationals. The rejection rates of Pakistani nationals were the highest – 55.1 per cent, showing that more than half of applications for visas got rejected. Ghanaians and Congolese had a rejection rate of 46.5 and 41.5 per cent respectively, while the other nationalities in top 5 included Algerians and Argentinians with 39.9 and 35 per cent rejection rates, respectively. Recently, in an article SchengenVisaInfo.com said that the Swiss embassy in New Delhi has declared its temporary suspension of Schengen visa applications for Indian tour groups until October. Clarifying the same, Swiss embassy in Delhi issued a statement saying that it has not suspended Schengen visa appointments for Indian tour groups and has almost 800 daily appointments through the end of September 2023. The mission asserted that people-to-people contact is at the core of Swiss-Indian relationship.
