'I have no idea': Confronted with facts in an interview, Donald Trump claims ignorance
Donald Trump has largely avoided interviews where he will be fact-checked in real time. But on Sunday, he sat for an interview on Fox News, where he was challenged directly on some of his most glaring falsehoods of the campaign. The exchanges that resulted provided a case study in the tactics the former president uses when confronted with facts that contradict his statements. Trump repeatedly denied knowledge of information that has long been publicly available, questioned the sources and then pivoted away to an unrelated topic.

Nijjar killing, attempt on Pannun's life part of 'single' plot, claims Canada's ex-envoy
US indictment linking a former Indian agent to a foiled bid to assassinate Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun paints a «compelling and detailed portrait» of «a single plot» emanating from Delhi to kill multiple targets across North America, especially in Canada and the US, Canada's most recent envoy to India Cameron MacKay has alleged. In an interview to CBC News, MacKay, who left India in August, said both Canada and the US are probing the matter, adding it was «a fiasco on the part of the Indian government» to think that it could carry out crimes in Canada and the US and get away with it. New Delhi expelled Canadian Charge d'Affaires Stewart Wheeler and five other diplomats following Ottawa's fresh allegations of the Indian government's involvement in the killing of Sikh extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil last year. The Canadian diplomats left New Delhi on Friday evening. India also recalled its High Commissioner and five more diplomats and they are also on their way back to India. The Canadian government had said the Indian diplomats were expelled from the country.

Trudeau has wrecked Canada-India political relations, says expelled envoy
Trudeau had wrecked bilateral political ties. Both countries on Monday ordered out six diplomats in tit-for-tat moves over Ottawa's allegations that New Delhi was targeting Indian dissidents on Canadian soil. Trudeau specifically tied the six to the murder of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year in British Columbia. Sanjay Kumar Verma, India's envoy to Canada, told CTV that Trudeau had been relying on intelligence rather than evidence.

Russia believes India, Brazil and African countries should be represented in UNSC: Sergey Lavrov
Russia's top diplomat has said that his country believes that India, Brazil and African countries should be represented in the UN Security Council on a permanent basis to ensure the representativeness of the global majority, state-owned TASS news agency reported on Sunday. «Countries such as India, Brazil, as well as representatives of Africa should have been on a permanent basis in the Security Council for a long time. This is necessary to ensure representativeness, representation of the global majority,» Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told aif.ru. in an interview, TASS reported. India has been at the forefront of years-long efforts calling for reform of the Security Council, including expansion in both its permanent and non-permanent categories, saying the 15-nation Council, founded in 1945, is not fit for purpose in the 21st Century and does not reflect contemporary geo-political realities. Delhi has underscored that it deserves a permanent seat at the horse-shoe table. Last month, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer joined US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron in backing India's bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Dollar-starved Maldives notifies new foreign currency rules
Maldives has floated a new foreign currency regulation, limiting types of transactions allowed in foreign currency and imposing mandatory foreign currency exchange controls on tourism establishments and banks. Maldivian economy appears to have taken a hit after calls to Indian tourists to avoid the picturesque island nation as a response to President Mohamed Muizzu's 'India Out' campaign last year. Maldives last month averted a potential default on an Islamic bond payment after India extended a USD 50 million interest-free loan. With its forex reserves not matching its import bill, the island nation's central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) on October 1 introduced a new regulation, requiring all foreign currency income generated by the tourism industry to be deposited in local banks.
