Russia's first lunar mission in decades fails; leaves India's Chandrayaan-3 only spacecraft in the race to land on moon
Russia's first lunar mission in nearly five decades, Luna-25, crashed into Moon a day after it had spun into uncontrolled orbit, the country's space agency said on Sunday, leaving India's Chandrayaan-3 mission's lander module the only spacecraft in the race to touch down on the lunar surface. According to the Russian Space Agency 'Roscosmos', on August 19 an impulse was provided to propel Luna-25 into an elliptical pre-landing orbit. At about 11:57 GMT, communication with Luna-25 was lost, in a blow to Moscow's space ambitions.

Russia-Ukraine war may last decades, West's support will dry up soon: Former Kremlin leader Dmitry Medvedev
NEW DELHI: Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has warned that the Russia-Ukraine conflict may end up dragging on for decades as the fight is an “existential” conflict for Moscow and a «fight for its very existence». According to a report by RT, Medvedev posted on social media stating that «Russia must destroy and fully dismantle the Ukrainian state that is a terrorist in its essence, making sure this filth never re-emerges again». Medvedev, who is currently deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, wrote: “Should it take years or even decades, then so be it. We have no choice: either we will destroy their hostile political regime, or the collective West will eventually tear Russia to pieces. And in this case, it will perish with us. Nobody needs this." «Therefore, the only way is a complete dismantling of the state machine of the hostile country and absolute guarantees of loyalty for the future. They can only be provided by Russia’s control over everything that is happening and will happen in the territories of the former Banderite state. And we will achieve that,» he said. UN condemns 'heinous' Russian attack on Ukraine city centre, 7 dead
Chernihiv killed seven people and wounded more than 100 on Saturday, in what the UN called a «heinous» attack hours after President Vladimir Putin met Moscow's top army commanders. «It is heinous to attack the main square of a large city, in the morning, while people are out walking, some going to church to celebrate a religious day for many Ukrainians,» said Denise Brown, the UN's humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine. She was referring to the Orthodox holiday of the Transfiguration of the Lord which saw some in Chernihiv attending church services in the morning. «I condemn this repeated pattern of Russian strikes on populated areas of Ukraine… Attacks directed against civilians or civilian objects are strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law,» she added. Chernihiv, 150 kilometres (90 miles) north of Kyiv towards Belarus, has been largely spared from major attacks since the first months of Russia's invasion as fierce fighting rages in the east and south.
