Booking Experts show reports RBI ups consumer loans’ risk weights
MUMBAI : After several months spent trying to sensitize lenders against the ongoing credit binge, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday raised risk weights on consumption loans, credit card exposures and loans to non-bank financiers by 25 percentage points each, hoping higher consumption of capital will slow such rapid growth. Bankers and financial sector experts said this would mean borrowers of such loans would have to shell out more as lenders try to compensate for the increase in capital requirement.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said there has been a nearly three-fold increase in the number of special train trips this festive season as compared to last year. The railways is operating 6,754 additional train trips this festive season between October 1 and December 31 to clear the rush of passengers as compared to 2,614 in the same period last year, he said. Till date 2,423 trips have been completed and the remaining trips will be made in the coming days, the minister said.

Sahara Group's real estate assets including the Aamby Valley City, in the neighbourhood of Lonavala near Mumbai and Pune, is with the group and is operating at full potential, the group said. Sahara group founder Subrata Roy, 75, passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday. Aamby Valley, spread across more than 10,000 acres in western Maharashtra, is a premium gated city with luxury villas, an 18-hole Golf course, and over 90% of landscaped open spaces. The Sahara Group has been entangled in a long-drawn court battle with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi) with regards to a case involving Optionally Fully Convertible Bonds (OFCBs) that were issued by the group to raise ₹25,000 crore. The Supreme Court had ordered the auction of Aamby Valley to recover the money and refund deposits to investors.

MUMBAI : Indian equities rallied on Wednesday tracking gains in global stocks, as lower-than-expected US inflation raised optimism about the end of the rate hike cycle. MUMBAI : Hiring activity cooled in tech and retail sectors in the December quarter as companies cut hiring mandates and reduced sub-contracting costs, while banking recruitment stayed flat and manufacturing saw a minor uptick. While hiring in the IT and startup sector is down to the levels of June quarter of 2020 when a strict lockdown was in force, retail and packaged consumer goods mandates are almost 20% lower from a year ago, recruiters said. However, manufacturing and automobile industries have shown some growth in hiring.
