Ready to engage with Centre to resolve Kashmir issue: Hurriyat chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq
Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said the separatist amalgam is ready to engage with the BJP-led Centre for the resolution of the "Kashmir issue". «When the APHC (All Parties Hurriyat Conference) was formed by the leadership in 1993, the situation was entirely different with militancy at its peak (in Jammu and Kashmir). »Even at that time, the APHC, in its proclamation, had clearly stated that it advocates for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict by engagement and even after 30 years, this outlook remains the same," the mirwaiz said here. He was addressing the Friday congregation at the Jamia Masjid in the city's Nowhatta area.

Germany looks to strengthen defence, military ties with India
Olaf Scholz said on Friday he wanted to deepen defence ties with New Delhi and bring the two countries' militaries closer, in comments following a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Germany, which has not traditionally had close defence ties with India, is now pitching to join the latter's effort to wean its arms base from decades of dependence on Russia, at a time when the West seeks to counter China's growing influence. «Our overall message is clear, we need more co-operation, not less,» Scholz said.

PM Modi & Chinese President Xi Jinping meet for first formal talks in five years as ties recover from 2020 military clash
Xi Jinping held their first formal talks in five years on Wednesday, signalling that ties between the Asian giants damaged by a deadly military clash in 2020 had begun to recover. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan, the Indian government and Chinese state media said, two days after New Delhi announced that it had reached a deal with Beijing to resolve the four-year military stand-off on their disputed Himalayan frontier. Relations between the world's two most populous nations — both nuclear powers — have been strained since a clash between their troops on the largely undemarcated frontier in the western Himalayas of Ladakh left 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers dead in 2020.
