Dalit nurse was allegedly raped by a doctor after being held hostage inside a private hospital, police said on Monday. According to the complaint filed by the victim's father, the incident occurred around midnight on Sunday. Three people were arrested in the case, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sandeep Kumar Meena said. On Saturday evening, the victim (20) went to the hospital for her duty at 7 pm. She had been working there for the last seven months. Late night, another nurse, Mehnaz, asked her to meet Dr. Shahnawaz in his room. When she refused to do so, Mehnaz and a ward boy, Junaid, forcibly took her to a room on the top floor of the hospital and locked it from the outside, Meena said.

Coforge and Persistent Systems earned more than their counterparts in TCS and Infosys in the last financial year as some Indian midcap IT firms are paying top dollar to their CEOs who are growing their business despite headwinds from multiple directions. Coforge CEO Sudhir Singh’s annual remuneration jumped three times in FY24 to more than $12.5 million (Rs 105.12 crore), making him the second-highest paid Indian IT firm CEO last financial year, trailing only former Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte. Other midcap IT firm CEOs like Nitin Rakesh of Mphasis and Sandeep Kalra of Persistent Systems earned Rs 44.13 crore ($5.2 million) and Rs 77.1 crore ($9.1 million), respectively, in FY24, according to the companies’ annual reports.

Private equity firm TA Associates Thursday said it has led the acquisition of a significant minority stake in Vastu Housing Finance Corp, a pan-India diversified lending institution. TA Associates bought the stake along with existing investors, including the International Finance Corporation, according to a release. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. People familiar with the matter said the investors bought the stake for about ₹3,340 crore ($400 million) and it valued Vastu at ₹10,000 crore. The lender also got about $75 million in primary capital infusion. Founded in 2015 by Sandeep Menon and Sujay Patil, Vastu is backed by Multiples Alternate Asset Management since inception. Other investors include Norwest Venture Partners, Creation Investments, 360 ONE Asset Management and Faering Capital. Vastu has a loan book of about ₹10,000 crore as of FY24-end. It has more than 230 branch locations across 13 states.

Indian Medical Association (IMA) president R V Asokan told the Supreme Court on Tuesday his unconditional apology to the apex court over his «damaging» statements in an interview to PTI, where he had answered queries about Patanjali Ayurved Ltd's misleading advertisements case, has been published in various publications. The IMA's counsel told a bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Sandeep Mehta that his unconditional apology has been published in the association's monthly publication, on the IMA's website, as also by PTI. «Last time, I (Asokan) had submitted an affidavit of apology. Your lordships were of the opinion that the apology should be given proper publicity like the interview...,» senior advocate P S Patwalia, appearing for the IMA, told the bench. He said the IMA has a monthly publication, and on its first page, a full page advertisement says that Asokan has apologised, expressed regret to the apex court and has submitted his affidavit tendering unconditional apology.
