Allahabad High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by veteran film actor and former MP Jaya Prada seeking quashing of non-bailable warrant issued against her by a trial court in Rampur for alleged violation of election code of conduct and making inflammatory statements. On Thursday, during a hearing by a single bench of Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh, Jaya Prada's counsel told the court that they wanted to file a new application with some new facts and documents and sought permission from the court to withdraw the petition. Supreme Court judge Sanjay Kishan Kaul on Saturday said a little bit of underlying friction between the judiciary and the executive is good to maintain checks and balances in a democracy. Addressing a function to confer the Sansad Ratna Awards on parliamentarians, Justice Kaul said the checks and balances of a democracy were enunciated in the Constitution which provides for an administration, a legislature and the court. «Since we have a democracy based on the first past the post concept where most governments would be having less than 50 per cent of the votes, the court plays an important role in maintaining a check and balance on the system,» he said. Justice Kaul, quoting a former chief justice, said «a little bit of underlying tension is good. If things are very hunky-dory between the judiciary and the executive, then we have a problem».

Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday issued a sixth summon to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asking him to appear on February 19 in the liquor policy case. Earlier on February 7, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Wednesday took cognizance of the Enforcement Directorate's complaint and summoned Kejriwal on February 17, 2024. ED had approached the court against Kejriwal for not complying with the summons issued by the central probe agency in the Delhi liquor policy money laundering case.

Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia on Wednesday alleged that national federation chief Sanjay Singh used devious means to get the suspension on WFI lifted by United World Wrestling (UWW) and threatened to restart their agitation against the body. The UWW on Tuesday lifted the provisional suspension on India but directed the national federation to provide written guarantees that there would be no discriminatory action against the protesting trio of Punia, Malik and Vinesh Phogat. The suspension was imposed by UWW in August last year after the WFI failed to hold elections in time. Punia, Malik and Phogat have been protesting for more than a year, demanding the arrest of former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for allegedly sexually harassing women grapplers.
