UPS wellness love shooting Olympics Sporting athletics Love for my sport keeps me grounded: Manu Bhaker
It’s not exactly how MANU BHAKER wanted to enjoy her Olympic success — two bronze medals. After a hectic schedule, she was looking forward to ‘some time off’ where she would put her feet up and just relax. Instead, she has been on a whirlwind tour of media houses, photo shoots, corporate events, podcasts studios etc. But, like she handles all the tricky situations at the shooting range, she is acing this phase of her life too. ET catches up with Bhaker to talk about her life after the Olympic success, her memories of pressure moments just before she won the medals and more. Excerpts What has changed around you since winning the Olympic medals? I have been attending a lot of events since then. Which is okay because I enjoy everything. It was pre-decided that I would take a long break after the Olympics. But because of these events, I have been travelling a lot. I had thought I would get some time off and I would sleep, have rest, and stay at home. But I haven’t got time to do all that. I am not complaining (laughs). I am enjoying this phase also.

Provident CAT 2020 Department rights Cat lover? You can hang out with these 11 cats at this IT company's office
feline staff members are as integral to the team as their human counterparts. At Qnote Inc., a system engineering firm based in Tokyo’s Suginami Ward, this is a reality. The company has 11 "cat employees," each with a unique role that goes beyond the usual office antics. From providing comfort to their human colleagues to enhancing the company’s public image, these cats have become an unexpected but beloved part of the workforce. The feline roster includes characters like department heads and division chiefs, roles that may sound whimsical but have a tangible impact. The story of these cat employees began in 2004, just a year after the company’s inception, with the adoption of Futaba, a female cat who had previously lived in foster care at a local sushi restaurant. The integration of cats into the office environment has brought several benefits. They help foster better communication among human staff by encouraging interaction through their care and playful disruptions. According to Yuki Igarashi, a non-feline employee, «Having the cats around adds just the right amount of change to our routine. It’s a delightful break from being glued to our computers all day.»

UPS shooting performer Olympics Sporting archery Paris Paralympics: Can Harvinder Singh’s gold lift archery in India?
Neeraj Chopra moment in Tokyo that changed the face of javelin in India and inspired many to take up the sport. Harvinder Singh’s gold medal in para archery in the men’s individual recurve open event on Wednesday has similar potential. For a long time, the Olympics or Paralympics, archery has been about heartbreaks and missed opportunities. It was Limba Ram in 1992, Deepika Kumari in 2012 and Dhiraj Bommadevara in 2024. Bommadevara shot well but still missed out on a medal. In a sense, it was becoming a curse. Shoot offs, inner 10s, something or the other would keep happening and the Indians would miss the podium. The jinx was finally broken by Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar when they won bronze in the mixed team event in compound. But they too faced a heartbreak in the semi final losing a shoot off against Iran. A gold medal, which has the ability to transform a sport, continued to be elusive.

Progressive wellness Equality rights Sporting athletics badminton From 1 to 22: The rise of Paralympians
India won its 20th medal at the Paris Paralympics, surpassing Tokyo’s 19 — medal mark. On Wednesday, Sachin Sarjerao Khilari – silver in men’s shot put F46 event — and Harvinder Singh — gold in men’s individual recurve open — added two more medals to push India’s count to 22. Considering that there was only one medal in London 2012 and just four in Rio 2016, the progress is staggering. Naturally, the rise in medals has coincided with the increase in the number of Indian athletes qualifying for the Paralympics. In another positive development, women athletes have outperformed men on many occasions. In Tokyo, all four badminton medals were won by men (Pramod Bhagat, Krishna Nagar, Suhas Yathiraj and Manoj Sarkar). In Paris, however, three women – Thulasimathi Murugesan, Nithya Sre Sivan and Manisha Ramadass – have made it to the podium, while only two men won the medals.
