PMJJBY has provided Rs 2 lakh life insurance coverage to over 21 crore beneficiaries: Finance Ministry
Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) has provided Rs 2 lakh life insurance coverage to over 21 crore beneficiaries, ensuring financial security for families in times of uncertainty, the Finance Ministry said on Saturday. The Finance Ministry in a social media post on X added that the cumulative enrolment under the PMJJBY has recorded at 21.67 crore, and the cumulative number of claims received was 860,575, worth Rs 17,211.50 as of October 20 this year. PMJJBY is a one-year life insurance scheme renewable from year to year, offering coverage for death due to any reason. Persons in the age group of 18-50 years having an individual bank or a post office account are entitled to enrol under the scheme.

UPI adds a billion transactions in two months, hits 11 bn mark amid festive season: RBI Bulletin
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) added another billion to reach 11 billion transactions in a short span of two months—the quickest addition of a billion—to date, the Reserve Bank said on Thursday in its monthly bulletin. The apex bank said that buoyed by the festival season, digital payments witnessed a strong expansion in October 2023, with growth (y-o-y) under major payment modes outpacing the increase in the previous month. “The Initial Public Offering (IPO) facility through UPI exhibited robust adoption, with the number of mandates nearly doubling in October 2023 over the corresponding month in 2022," the RBI monthly bulletin added.

Calcutta HC directs nodal officer to file report on panchayat poll violence in Bengal
Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the inspector general of BSF, the nodal officer appointed for deployment of central forces for West Bengal panchayat polls, to file a report on the violence that took place in various booths on July 8. The court also directed the state government to provide assistance to the relatives for cremation of those who died in alleged poll violence and healthcare facilities to the injured. A division bench presided by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam directed the IG, BSF, the nodal officer appointed for deployment of central forces for the rural polls, to file a report on the violence which took place in various polling booths in the state during the elections on July 8.
